About 5K Home Run supporting Family Promise of Lawrence
The 5K Home Run will start at 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 25, at South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St., in downtown Lawrence. All ages and abilities are welcome, including serious runners, walkers, children in strollers and dogs on a leash. Overall and master’s male and female winners, as well as 5- to 12 and 13- to 18-year-old winners will receive medals. The largest youth team and biggest individual fundraiser will also earn prizes. Anyone who registers by May 1 will receive a T-shirt.
Participants can complete their 5K anytime, anywhere between May 19 – 25 with the virtual option.

Proceeds from the event support local families with children who are experiencing a housing crisis. In 2025, Family Promise of Lawrence assisted 269 families who faced housing insecurity in Douglas County, including 571 children under 18.
“Community is the heart of Family Promise’s work. The 5K Home Run gives us a chance to raise much-needed funds for families facing or currently experiencing homelessness and get our neighbors involved in a fun way,” says Brenda Wahl, executive director of Family Promise of Lawrence.
Children can get the wiggles out in the bounce house, enjoy face painting, have a balloon animal made by Ashley Myers Balloon Twisting, play yard games and more in South Park as part of the free expanded kids’ zone sponsored by The Good Game.
