9/11 Run to Remember

The 9/11 Run to Remember 5k and 1m walk will be held on Saturday September 5th.

The 9/11 Run to Remember was established to honor and remember the 2,977 people lost in the horrific 9/11 terrorist attack. The run starts and finishes at the California 9/11 Memorial in Clovis, CA, a permanent monument which is the largest of its kind outside of New York City.

The “Survivor Tree”, a Callery pear tree that survived the attacks at Ground Zero, was saved from the rubble and placed in the care of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

Although initially severely damaged with snapped roots, burned and broken branches, the tree was saved. Once recovered fully, it made its way back to the now standing Memorial at Ground Zero in 2010.

According to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the tree today “stands as a living reminder of resilience, survival, and rebirth.”

A Sapling of the 9/11 Survivor Tree was Planted at the California 9/11 Memorial in Clovis CA in 2022.

For the inaugural 9/11 Run to Remember on Sept 6th, Burchell Nursery has donated a fruit tree for all participants to take home to plant.

There is plenty of free parking across the street from the California 9/11 Memorial.  Signs and volunteers will be on hand to help or answer questions the morning of the event.

To never forget the CIVILIANS, FIRST RESPONDERS and MILITARY PERSONNEL who died during the tragic events on September 11, 2001.
