About Age-Graded 4-Miler
Celebrate the second of August with us. We originally planned this race for the Fourth of July, but had to cancel because of the heat. The race is back, on August 2, 2026.
The Age-Graded 4-Miler is a unique event designed to completely level the playing field.
It differs from other races. Runners start at a time determined by their gender and age. The goal is for everyone to finish close to one another. The winner is the first person to physically cross the finish line, regardless of chip time.
The race start is determined by tables based on age and gender performance statistics. See below.
GIFTS
All runners receive prizes since all participants are encouraged to contribute unique used items to the prize pool. Past prizes have included 1970s baseball cards, a Simpsons dart board, and a New Guinean sheath. Runners have also taken home cherry, apple, and blueberry pies in commemoration of the nation's birthday.
Bring a gift so you can get one!
After the race enjoy snacks from Chomps, which was generous enough to sponsor the run.
The race is part of the DCRRC's Bunion Derby Series. For more information/rules, visit the race series rules page.
Registration closes at 8:00 p.m. the night before the race. National Park Service rules prohibit registration on race day.
