About Alley Loop
The Alley Loop is not your typical Nordic Marathon… It stands both as a premier American Birkebeiner Qualifying event, in addition to being Crested Butte’s most outrageous costume party of the year! The course winds its way through snowy streets, alleyways and narrow bridges through the heart of downtown Crested Butte. You’ll find yourself cheered by town revelers as you navigate a crazy gliding costume assemblage… Racers are sometimes forced into making daring passes and depending on their luck, may even get waylaid on a bridge for a moment. Once you make it through town, you are rewarded by pristine tracks and exhilarating vistas throughout the Crested Butte Nordic trail network.
If you like normal, you may want to look for another race. If you are up for anything… this is right up your alley!
Frequently Asked Questions
- Are there refunds? No. We understand plans do change, skiers get injured, life gets in the way - you can purchase event insurance through Protecht during registration. We cannot offer deferments for our races as a non-profit organization as the races fall into different calendar years complicating the budgeting process.
- Are there transfers? We do not allow transfers from participant to another participant. However, if you registered for an event and need to switch your registration you can do that via your racer profile. Learn how to manage your registration here.
- What will be provided at the aid stations? There are two aid stations for races 21k and up and one for the 10k. The aid stations will have Honey Stingers, water and electrolytes.
- Are you a cup-less event? We strive to be waste free. We will have a limited quantity of cups at aid stations. Please bring your own water bottle or collapsable cup and help us reach our goals.
- Where do I park? Because the race takes place in town, we highly recommend carpooling, taking the free bus or walking when possible. Parking will be available at the 4-way stop in town.
- How will the course be marked? The course will be marked with blue CB Nordic pin flags and signs at key intersections. Course maps can be found on the bottom of our website and in the racer manual.
- What is the Nordic Village and Expo? The Nordic Village will be a place for participants to shop, learn about various businesses/non-profits in the valley and collect racer bibs and swag. The Nordic Village will take place at the Center for the Arts at 606 6th Street, Crested Butte, CO 81224. The expo is free for Alley Loop participants and spectators.
