About BENefit Mile

The ninth annual BENefit Mile will take place on Friday, August 7, 2025 in Plainfield, Indiana at 7:00 p.m.. This net downhill race will begin on Buchanan Street and finish in downtown Plainfield near the Plainfield Friends Meeting off of East Street.

This event features a unique opportunity for seasoned runners to tackle a fast, shorter race than the typical road run, and will also appeal to those just starting out with running (walkers are also encouraged to participate)! The BENefit Mile will separate into corrals based on estimated finish times. Stick around after the races for post-race festivities!

The BENefit Mile will raise funds for the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent in memory of Ben Harmon, a Hendricks County resident and runner and who passed away in July of 2018 of Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Ben’s optimism and genuine positivity towards everyone, as well as his fight against his cancer was incredibly inspiring. This race will raise funds to help the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases support other patients and families in their fight against cancer as well.

Course

This net downhill 1 Mile course races through a residential street in Plainfield, Indiana. Expect fast times, and fun as we race to raise both awareness and funds for Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent in memory of Ben Harmon.

Please note that this is a point to point course. You may park at the Finish Line area and walk to the Start Line before the race or park at the Start Line and walk back from the Finish Line after the race. Just make sure to plan accordingly to get the Start Line before the race starts.

COVID 19 Adjustments

COVID 19 ADJUSTMENTS:

  • Event Management Team will Follow all local guidelines from the Town of Plainfield and the CDC. 
  • Hand Sanitizer Available throughout the event venue 
  • Social Distancing Required throughout event 
  • COVID-19 Self Screen Required by Participants (see Self Screen tab on Website) 
  • Masks required at all times except when running/walking on the course 
  • Longer start time allowing for maximum social distancing. (Corrals)
  • Separate Start/Finish Lines when necessary based on start time length, and course needs
  • Prepackaged refuel items only 
  • No aid stations on course 
  • Multiple packet pick up dates available to reduce lines and congestion
  • These adjustments can adjust and change as COVID-19 requirements and recommendations will continue change. Please check back regularly, and especially as the event nears.

We are located on the inside north/south strip of the mall. We are on the east side and just south of Old Navy/Dicks Sporting Goods and north of Lane Bryant. 

Race Day Packet Pick Up:

Participants may Pick Up Packets on Friday, August 7th before the race from 5:15 PM - 7:00 PM. Please remember that the Packet Pick Up/Registration will be at the Finish Line. Plan to grab packets with enough time to walk/drive/bike back to the Start Line.

Virtual Participation

We would love to have you participate in our annual BENefit Mile Run/Walk, even if you're not available on race night. Those who choose to race virtually will have the freedom to run wherever they choose, and can submit results between August 7-9, 2026. Hit the trails in the afternoon or a treadmill while watching Netflix. Your call!
