About Bike Hut Classic
It's beautiful...it's challenging...it's a bucket-list Bay Area ride through Coastal Redwoods for a great cause!
Rally your club members or friends for this annual DIY ride, to be completed on your own from July 3 - 19.
Set out from the iconic Bike Hut rest stop (a world famous cycling treasure), rolling down Tunitas Creek Road through coastal farms and scenic countryside before starting the ascent through the Redwoods with switchbacks and stunning forest views. Climb 1900 feet in elevation and 8.3 miles to Skyline Boulevard, all while supporting Abundant Grace Coastside Worker! Make it an out-and-back or add it to a larger ride from over the hill or up the Coast.
One hundred percent of proceeds go to Abundant Grace as they hire the homeless community to work at Potrero Nuevo Farm (behind the Bike Hut). The organic produce is donated to low-income families, and participants earn money while giving back to the community.
Registration includes a limited edition t-shirt and entry to our Ride Reception on Saturday, July 25 with ice cream sundaes and live music. Top riders earn prizes and get their name on a plaque inside the Bike Hut, as will the bike club that raises the most funds.

Safety Rules
Note, there are no road closures for this ride. Helmets are required and please, no earbuds. Please be courteous and attentive to other cyclists and vehicles. Tunitas is known for blind narrow curves, so always stay alert. **DAYTIME FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Ride for time if you’re into it, but above all, stay safe and have fun out there.
E-Bikes
E-bikes are welcome and encouraged! However, they will not be counted in the leaderboard.

The Course
The Route
Tunitas is challenging enough to keep avid cyclists coming back, but it’s also doable for an average exerciser! Begin from the Bike Hut (1045 Tunitas Creek Rd; Half Moon Bay, CA 94019) with two miles of rolling countryside (easy) before starting the gorgeous and gritty ascent into the Redwood forest. It’s two miles of (moderate) climbing before the switchbacks take a steeper grade for a breathless mile and a half more (difficult). Luckily, this is also where Tunitas feels extra magical, alive with giant Redwoods and bright greenery carpeting the forest floor. Once past the Purisima trailhead, things level with a moderate incline for the final three miles (easy) to Skyline.
Start Line
The Bike Hut Address: 1045 Tunitas Creek Rd; Half Moon Bay, CA - You'll see the start line chalked on the road, just after the Bike Hut porta potty @300 ft east of The Bike Hut. This way, if you're stopping at The Bike Hut for a break before you begin the ride, your gps won't trigger the segment until you're ready to ride.
Finish Line
The top of Tunitas Creek Road, i.e. just before the intersection of Tunitas Creek Road and Skyline Boulevard on Kings Mountain. You'll see the finish line chalked on the road by the last big Redwood tree (pictured below) on the left before the pullout - for your safety, please don't go all the way to the intersection with Skyline.

The Reception
The Fun
Fastest Times Announced | T-shirt Pick-Up | Food & Drink | Live Music
Saturday, July 25 from 10 - 12!
Stop by Potrero Nuevo Farm (1045 Tunitas Creek Rd; Half Moon Bay) behind the Bike Hut to pick up your T-shirt and see the fastest ride times in each category. Enjoy coffee and an ice cream sundae with strawberries from the farm and take your photo on our red-and-white-striped podium! The folks from Abundant Grace Coastside Worker will be there to congratulate you on your ride and also displaying the perpetual plaque of fastest times, which will be forever displayed in the Bike Hut for all to see. We will also honor the local bike club that raises the most money (through registrations, donations, sponsorship and peer-to-peer fundraising). We’ll have limited parking if you’d rather not ride by that day. Make your parking reservation here.
Can’t make it to the Ride Reception?
We’ll email ride times to all riders the week of the reception. Riders who can't make the reception can swing by The Bike Hut through August to pick up their t-shirt from the wood chest behind the coffee counter (honor system, self-serve).
The T-Shirt
That's right...the Bike Hut Classic has its own artwork, custom made by the talented HBS Artworks! Every rider who registers by July 4 is guaranteed a t-shirt. Artist Hannah Spencer creates wild and whimsical woodblock prints, and this year's design is printed on high-quality, super soft cotton blend shirts. For t-shirt sizing info, link here. Hannah also offers limited edition prints on her etsy page. Get Hannah's prints while you can...when they're gone, they're gone forever.
Why Fundraise
All proceeds benefit Abundant Grace Coastside Worker. Abundant Grace hires the homeless to work at Potrero Nuevo Farm, the beautiful organic farm behind the Bike Hut. Here they find purpose, a supportive community, and a way to earn money.
More about AGCW:
-
The Full-Circle Food Justice program brings people experiencing homelessness to the farm every Monday and Thursday to plant, tend, and harvest more than 45 crops on 2 acres. The food is distributed for free to low-income families in Half Moon Bay.
-
The Farm Apprenticeship invites participants learn about a specific aspect of the farm such as irrigation, machines, greenhouse management, plant health, nutrition, or making value-added farm products. Skill building boosts their confidence and allows them to take on more of a leadership role at the farm.
-
The Conservation Crew is all about understanding our individual environmental impact. We focus on land stewardship projects like invasive species removal, native plantings, and erosion control; but the main goal is to empower folks to understand their own footprint. For folks who are in survival-mode and living outside, this understanding can have a profound effect on their lives and our shared landscape.
-
Abundant Grace's overall programmatic goals include housing, employment, health, sobriety, and food security. Engaging the homeless community with support and tools to transform their lives really works!
-
We’ve seen amazing growth in people! Every year, people we serve find housing, get jobs, go into rehab, and more. We accompany each person in their unique journey toward healing and wholeness.
-
The Coastside Clean Team pays participants to clean up the beaches and Coastside neighborhoods.
-
Our Workforce Development Center is our headquarters for our job-readiness programs and a hub of resources for people who desperately need them.
-
Go to abundantgracecw.org for more information.
The club that raises the most funds (through registrations, donations, sponsorship and peer-to-peer fundraising) will get its name engraved on a plaque inside The Bike Hut!
