About Bradley Road Race - 5K & 10K

Welcome to the 30th running of the 5K & 10K Bradley Road Race!. Run the 10K or run/walk the 5K on the USATF accredited course through the residential streets of Windsor Locks. This fundraising event is hosted by the Windsor Locks Lions Club to support local community activities and  regional health related organizations. We encourage runners to form teams and offer banners and photos for those that do. Each runner receives a tee shirt and a finish line photo. Children 10 yrs and under receive a personalized certificate. First, second and third awards are presented by age group and gender provided the group is competitive. Results are available on-line and photo galleries can be posted. The race starts and finishes at Windsor Locks High School with ample parking at the school and nearby lots.

The race always takes place at the start of the racing season on the last Saturday in March, March 28, 2026

We welcome Runners and Walkers of all Ages and Abilities. We offer divisions for athletes with disabilities and adaptive athletes (AWD) pursuant to the guidelines of the International Paralympic Committee for Track and Field. Those four divisions are: Physically Challenged, Push Rim Wheelchair, Hand-Crank/Hand-Cycle Wheelchair, and Visually Impaired.

This year’s race proceeds will benefit the Windsor Locks Lions Charities.

AWD Athletes

AWD and Adaptive Athletes
The Windsor Locks Lions Club welcomes athletes of all abilities to the Bradley Road Race. Athletes who are affiliated with Achilles International Connecticut Chapter, the Windsor Locks chapter of Special Olympics or Special Olympics Connecticut may contact their organization for information about participating. Those with special needs not affiliated with those organizations may contact our race director to coordinate accommodations.

 

Athletes with disabilities and adaptive athletes (AWD) may register in competitive divisions that follow the paralympic guidelines. To register for one of the divisions below, visit our online registration site and select 5K AWD or 10K AWD. You will then be able to designate the division in which you will be competing.

Awards will be distributed to the top 3 athletes in each category regardless of the number of athletes in that category.

 

 Mobility Impaired: A physically impaired athlete for the purposes of this race is defined as any person with a significant and permanent physical or motor deficiency that still allows them to be ambulatory for road racing. Examples of such permanent physical challenges include but are not limited to:

  • partial or complete loss of a lower extremity, such as a Symes or leg amputation; or
  • significant loss of motor function due to stroke; or
  • a serious degenerative neurological condition affecting the extremities such as Multiple Sclerosis.

 

Visually Impaired: A visually impaired runner must meet the classifications of IBSA Visual Classifications Class B1, B2, B3 and B4. For more information on IBSA Visual Classifications, click here

 

Intellectual Impairment:   Athletes with down syndrome, autism, cognitive impairments and others.

 

Pushrim Racing Wheelchair: A wheelchair athlete for the purposes of this race is defined as any person with a significant and permanent physical or motor deficiency requiring the use of a push-rim wheelchair (not hand cranks) to compete. Able-bodied individuals may not participate in the Wheelchair Division. Rules and regulations for wheelchairs will be based on the International Paralympic Committee’s guidelines.

 

Handcycle: Athletes are invited to participate in the Bradley Road Race. Athletes must wear helmets at all times while on the event course and have an orange visibility flag on a 5’-6’ flexible pole attached to the hand-cycle at all times while on the event course.

Pre-race Check-in (Packet Pick-Up)
Packets including bib and t-shirt can be picked up Friday March 27 from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the Gathering Ground Restaurant at 482 Spring St in Windsor Locks. Light snacks are provided. You can help us expedite check-in by picking up your packet on Friday.  You don’t need to be present.  A friend can pick it up for you.
Skip the Check-in line on Saturday.
 
Traffic and Parking
See the Race Route and Parking menu item on RunSignUp\Race Info for details. There is parking at the High School, South School and at several off site lots.
 
Race Day Check-in
Check-in opens at 8:00 am on Race Day, Saturday March 28, for those who did not check in on Friday.
Check-in on Race Day as soon as you arrive and receive your bib and t-shirt. If you did not register before March 1, your t-shirt size selection is first come first serve.
 
Race Day Registration
All registration is on-line including on Race Day. A QR code for your cell phone makes it simple. The code is posted on a sign near the check in area.  No phone? Go to the registration table for assistance.
You must still check-in after registering.
 
Bibs
Pick up your bib during check-in.  5K bibs are white on black, 10K bibs are white on red. Please attach your bib to the front of your upper body.
 
Change your Event
You may change your event (i.e. 5K to 10K) any time before check-in. You can do this on-line by accessing your registration Profile on Runsignup.com and clicking ‘Switch Event’.
 
Restrooms
Restrooms are available in the High School from 8:00 am to 12 noon.
 
Race Schedule
The 10K starts at 10:00 am and the 5K Run and Walk a few minutes later. No walkers on the 10K course, please. No Pets on either course. The race officially ends at 11:30 am. Anyone still on the course must move to the sidewalk.
 
Race Course
The 5K and 10k share sections of the same route. See the Race Route and Parking menu item on RunSignUp\Race Info for details. Watch carefully for the signs indicating where the courses split. The 5K signs are black on yellow. The 10K signs are white on black. Be aware, there are three locations where 10K runners may rejoin 5K runners. 
Both courses are USATF certified. Those who have run the 10K in a prior year may notice the 10K start line has moved about 75ft. The courses were officially remeasured and recertified last year.
 
Race Results
Preliminary results will be available in real time on RunSignUp. Check the link https://runsignup.com/Race/Results/90373  or the QR code displayed in the registration area.  We are also planning to send you an email message with your personal results shortly after you finish the race. All questions about the results are handled by the timer.
 
Awards
First, second and third place awards are given in male and female age divisions as follows: Overall, 10 and under, 11-13, 14-19, ten-year increments (20-29 etc.), 80 and over for the 5k and 10K events. There are Windsor Locks resident male and female Overall awards. Overall awards are based on gun time; all others are based on chip time.
Overall winners will be recognized in a brief ceremony. All other awards will be awarded as soon as the results are posted. Check your phone to learn if you have earned an award.
All children 10 and under will receive a certificate. Get these certificates at the Awards table.
 
Photography
We discourage photography that obstructs the finish line area. Runners, please clear the finish line area as quickly as possible. Meet your friends elsewhere. Individual photos and photo albums can be posted on RunSignUp. See the Photos menu item.
Weather permitting, there will be photo backdrop in front of the school for team, group and individual photos both before and after the race.

Refreshments
Water is available at two water stations along the race route. After the race, water and bananas are available for all the participants. Please use the waste containers provided.
 
Pets
For safety reasons, pets are not permitted on the race course.
