About Bucks & Does 13.1 Pointer

Choose Your Distance
Pick your pursuit: 5-Pointer (5K), 10-Pointer (10K), or 13.1-Pointer (Half Marathon). Every finisher nabs a bucking-great woodle (our wooden finisher medal). Expect a tasteful herd of deer puns—it’s the perfect warm-up to Wisconsin’s deer season.

What’s with the name?
This race runs right through deer season, so we leaned in. After a community naming contest, Bucks & Does Fifty Pointer took the crown. Now you’re in on the story! Keep your eyes peeled—you might spot deer on course (or artfully “hidden” in the woods).

Race Courses

The trails are well groomed and mostly wood chipped.  There is a portion that is grass, but it is well maintained. Over 60% of the course is shaded with trees.

The course distances will not be exact since it is trail running, and as nice as the park people are, they won't let us cut down trees to make new paths. If you have run at Nashotah with us in the past, it is the course in reverse (counter clockwise). Easier? Maybe, maybe not...

  • 5K - 1 lap inside - 3.21 miles
  • 10K - 2 laps inside - 6.42 miles
  • Half - 2 laps outside, one lap inside - 13.03 miles

The outside laps are run first.

The course is market with 12X12 turn arrows, 3' tall course signs and cones. It does not use the traditional ultra trail tape or markings. It is very well marked and you do not need to try and memorize the course.

Early Start & Course Closures
As much as we’d love to spend days/nights/weekends at our favorite race sites, our permits only allow us to be on site for a limited amount of time. We are required to close the course to stay within those limits and, unfortunately, participants will not be permitted to continue once the course is closed for the final lap. The course will close for the final lap at 11:15am.

If you are concerned about being able to finish the half marathon in the allotted time, we want to help you achieve your running goals, so we offer an early start for those who need a little more time. Early start half marathoners will receive a chip time, but are not eligible for age group awards or series awards. The course may not be marked, course marshals & police may not be on course, aid stations may not be set, and the course is open to the public. The early start is ONLY for half marathons.

Those that are not participating in the half marathon and start early will not receive an official time and will be disqualified. Additionally, participants who continue after being asked to stop will be disqualified.

Aid Stations

There is one aid station on course. It will have water, sports drink and gels.

Volunteers

We need volunteers for everything from aid station support to course marshals. If you or your group have an interest in volunteering, we would greatly appreciate the assistance. All volunteers can run a future race at no charge. Register to volunteer by clicking on the volunteer link in the menu above. For more information on volunteering click here.

This is a Cupless race!

The idea of throwing 100,000+ cups in a landfill each year doesn’t seem in line with what most runners support. This has been in the works for 2+ years, but covid interrupted its implementation. Now is the time to do it!

Don’t worry, we’re NOT doing away with aid stations. There will still be aid stations with water and sports drinks at events, just no cups! You will need to bring a reusable cup with you. We are also expanding the areas for a bag drop where you can leave a nutrition/hydration bag.
