About Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem Half Marathon and 10K - MI
Carpe Diem – Carpe Noctem Trail Race
Run trails by daylight, race again under the stars. On Saturday, April 11, 2026, Carpe Diem – Carpe Noctem returns to Proud Lake State Recreation Area in Commerce Township, Michigan. This unique trail race offers a chance to experience the same course in two very different ways: By sunlight in the morning and by headlamp at night.
Choose from a Half Marathon or 10K in the morning, evening, or both. Morning races take place fully in daylight, while evening races start just before sunset and many finish after dark—making this one of Michigan’s most exciting night races. Runners who take on the Double will earn two gorgeous medals that magnetically connect into one epic keepsake.
The trails at Proud Lake are wide, runnable, and beginner-friendly, with a few sections of roots. If it rains, expect classic Michigan Spring mud to keep things interesting. Courses are extremely well-marked with turn signs at every intersection and confidence markers every tenth of a mile, so you can focus on your run instead of your navigation.
Beyond the races themselves, Carpe Diem – Carpe Noctem is built around community. Between the morning and evening events, athletes are invited to stick around for a full-day trail hangout, complete with hot food, a community potluck, lawn games, and plenty of time to relax with fellow runners.
Why Run Carpe Diem – Carpe Noctem?
- Unique Format: Experience trails in both daylight and nighttime conditions on the same day.
- Flexible Distances: Morning or evening Half Marathon and 10K options—or take on the Double for the ultimate challenge. Half + Half or Half + 10K
- Memorable Medals: Earn a gorgeous Diem or Noctem medal—or run both and receive a two-piece, magnetic medal set.
- Premium Swag: Every participant gets a soft, comfortable spring race hoodie with regular registration. Or save some cash - skip the swag and just race with Economy Registration.
- Community Vibe: Enjoy hot food, a potluck, and games with your trail family between races.
- Well-Marked Trails: Wide, runnable courses with turn signs and confidence markers every 0.1 mile.
- Night Running Adventure: Evening races begin at 7:00 pm—bring a headlamp or flashlight and experience the thrill of running through the woods after dark.
Event Date: Saturday, April 11, 2026
Location: Proud Lake State Recreation Area, Commerce Township, MI
Seize the day. Chase the night. Or do both.
10K Details
The 10K follows one loop of the Half Marathon course and includes two on-course aid stations. It’s a great option walkers and for athletes who want to run at night, but who prefer to finish before full darkness sets in. The route is extremely well-marked, with hanging tape every 0.1 miles for confidence and turn signs at every intersection.
Expect a few short, gentle hills, but nothing steep or sustained.
Please read the Athlete Guide so you’re fully prepared for the splits, markings, and aid station layout.

Between-Race Hang
Carpe Diem – Carpe Noctem is designed as a full-day trail experience—not just a start line and a finish. Between the morning (Diem) and evening (Noctem) races, athletes are encouraged to stick around at Proud Lake State Recreation Area to recover, refuel, and spend the day with their trail community.
What began as an impromptu runner hang two years ago became an intentional between-race experience last year, and it’s now a core part of the event. Whether you’re racing once or tackling a Double, the time between races is meant to be relaxed, social, and restorative.
To support recovery, Advanced Physical Therapy will be on site offering post-race stretching and mobility work, and Runnin’ Gear Waterford will host a Recovery Zone with tools like percussion guns, pneumatic leg compression, foam rollers, and more.
We’re also bringing back the community potluck. Trivium will provide the main course, and participants are invited to bring sides, desserts, beverages, or favorite snacks to share. If you plan to join the potluck, please sign up using the link below so we can plan accordingly.
Please note: Overnight camping is not permitted. The campground is not yet open for the season. However, many participants bring a tent or small camper and hang out for the day between races.
This is your chance to slow down, recover well, and enjoy the park with your trail community—before heading back out to seize the night.

Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem Club Competition
- All clubs, regardless of size, are part of the club competition.
- Awards go to the winning club
- All finishes count toward the 2026 Trivium Club Cup Competition
How Club Scoring Works at Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem
- All finishers earn 1 point just for completing the race, so the more runners your team brings, the more you score.
- Age group placement earns additional points, with top finishers scoring up to 20 points (1st place) and down to 2 points (for 16th–20th).
- Overall podium winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) earn double their age group points—for example, an overall 10K winner scores 41 points!
- Volunteers are a huge part of race day too, earning 5 points each for their club.
- And because Carpe has two distances, the Half Marathon is worth double points across the board—making it a huge opportunity to rack up a big score for your team.
2026 Trivium Racing Club Competition
- All clubs who compete also earn points toward the Overall, 2026 Trivium Club Competition
- The Overall season winner will be treated to a club party and receive the club cup to proudly display for the next year!
- Points will start at 500 for first place and decrease by 50 points for each placement. (1st = 500, 2nd = 450, 3rd = 400, etc.)
- Clubs placing 11 – 20 will receive 25 points.
- Club placing 21 and up will receive 10 points.

Race Weekend Logistics
When are the races?
Carpe Diem Half Marathon & 10K - April 11, 2026 at 8:30 am
Carpe Noctem Half Marathon & 10K - April 11, 2026 at 7:00 pm
Where is the race located?
Proud Lake State Rec Area - Modern Campground - 2928 Glengary Road, Commerce Township, MI 48382. When you enter the park you drive back towards the DNR checkpoint booth. After the booth you make a left towards the Modern Campground.
Where should I park?
Parking is located near the start/finish. Volunteers will direct you on race morning. This is a state park so to enter the state park you will need a State Recreation Passport (good at all parks all year) upon arrival. This money will be collected at the gate if you do not already have one, but it's cheaper and you get through the line faster if you purchase it ahead of time!
We encourage people to bring cash & exact change; The credit card machine REALLY slows things down, especially during the rush of people showing up right before race time. Prices are:
- ALL Michigan license plates: $19 (no day pass available).
- Out-of-state license plates: $11/day pass, $41 annual sticker.
From the DNR: “Please be sure to adhere your Recreation Passport to the lower passenger side of your windshield upon purchase. If traffic begins to back up, park staff may waive vehicles through the entrance booth to ensure an on-time race start. This does not waive the requirement of the Recreation Passport. Park staff will issue violation notices requiring vehicles to stop by the office upon departure to obtain the proper vehicle pass. Failure to purchase a vehicle pass may result in a civil infraction.”
Is there race-day registration?
If spots remain, yes—but we strongly recommend pre-registering to guarantee your hoodie in your size and your medal.
Is there a time limit?
Half Marathon: Course open 8:30 am - 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 10:30 PM (3.5 hours, 16:01.832/mile)

Will the course be marked?
Yes—mileage will be clearly marked and volunteers will guide you. You can view course markings in the Athlete Guide.
Are there Aid Stations?

Can we hang out between the morning and evening races?
Please do! Many people bring a tent or small camper and hang out for the day. We'll grill up lunch and have a potluck, keep the campfire going, and bring lawn games. The time spent with friends new and old between the races is the best part!
Can we camp overnight before/after the race?
Unfortunately no. The Modern Campground isn't open yet for the season.
Safety & Other Policies
Are dogs or headphones allowed?
- Dogs are not allowed on the course as of 2026 due to the narrow nature of some sections of the trails, safety, and ensuring the comfort of all athletes.
