About Charlottesville Women's Four Miler
Greetings, Four Miler friends!
The 43rd annual Charlottesville Women's Four Miler will be held at Foxfield on Saturday, August 30th, 2025. This much-loved community event began in 1983 and, since then, has grown to become the largest women's-only race in Virginia while raising over 4.2 million dollars for the UVA Breast Care Center. We hope you will join in this fun, challenging, and deeply meaningful local tradition. Run or walk the beautiful countryside course, or participate virtually from anywhere.
All proceeds from registration fees go directly to the UVA Breast Care Center and we strongly encourage you to fundraise beyond this.
A special thanks for Foxfield for all the amazing support over all the years, and to the hundreds of local sponsors and volunteers who make this event possible. We would like to acknowledge the Charlottesville Track Club (CTC) for their years of support for this and many other local, not-for-profit events. Please consider becoming a member of the CTC here and follow their website and social media to stay current on upcoming events!
VIRTUAL OPTION: We understand it if you can’t make it to Foxfield, especially if you're traveling for the Labor Day holiday or live out of town. We’d still love to have you be a part of this special fundraising event, so please feel free to run or walk a four-mile course of your choosing close to home.

FAQs
How can I get updates about the race?
Visit this site to stay up to date on events and race-day information. And follow our Facebook page!
I don’t want to run four miles, is it okay if I walk?
YES! By all means, 30% of our participants are walkers. Participants choose to walk for many different reasons - injury, aches and pains, keeping pace with younger family members, or just personal preference. Whatever your reason for walking, four miles is the same distance at 24 minutes as it is at 60 minutes!
Where is packet pickup?
Packet pickup will be at the Hillsdale Conference Center, at 550 Hillsdale Avenue, from 4pm-7pm on Thursday, August 28th.

I’ve already registered, but now I want to join a racing team. Can I do this?
Absolutely! When you registered, you received an email that includes a link that is labeled “Manage Registration” (link is located above the QR code). This link will take you to a runsignup.com page that will prompt you to sign in. Once signed in, there will be an arrow in the top right-hand corner of the screen with a drop-down menu. Select “Profile” and then “Manage Registration” on the right and then “Group/Team”. From this screen, you can create a new team or join an existing one.
This is a female-only race. How can the males in my life get involved?
The Women’s Four Miler requires a lot of volunteer-power to help things run smoothly! There are volunteer opportunities to help with packet pick-up and for the day of the race. We are especially in need of race-morning parking volunteers.
Should I bring my own water on the day of the race?
We encourage you to bring lots of water to keep hydrated, but there are water stops along the course, around miles 2 and 3.
Are strollers or baby carriers allowed on the race course?
No, because of safety issues due to the high volume of participants, strollers of any kind (including jogging strollers) and baby carriers are not allowed on the race course.
Can my dog join me on the race course?
No, pets are not permitted on the course or on the Foxfield grounds.
Can I use my headphones/earbuds during the race?
Due to safety issues, we discourage using headphones during the race.
I’ve just realized that I can’t come to the race. Can I get a refund?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds on registration fees, but you still get your race bib and t-shirt.
It looks like it might rain on race day! What is the weather plan?
The race happens rain or shine, though it would be canceled in the event of a thunderstorm.
What time should I arrive?
Though the race begins at 8 AM, you can arrive as early as 6:30 and you must arrive no later than 7:30. At 7:30, the road is closed to all traffic at 7:30 while staging begins and does not open again until 9:30.
When should I plan to leave Foxfield?
Garth Road re-opens to vehicular traffic at 9:30 am. However, we hope you will take advantage of the unique opportunity to linger on the beautiful grounds of Foxfield for the post-race festivities. These include: post-race refreshments, presentation of awards, door prize raffles from local businesses (you must be present to win!). And you don't want to miss the post-race party at Oakencroft Farm & Winery, right down the road from us.

Packet Pickup Volunteer Instructions
Thank you for volunteering to help with the packet pickup for the 2025 Women's Four Miler!
****NEW LOCATION****
Hillsdale Conference Center
550 Hillsdale Avenue
Charlottesville, VA 22901
THURSDAY, August 28th, 4PM to 7PM
- Please arrive at the Hillsdale Conference Center on time, as indicated above.
- Enter the building through the left-hand door and head straight back to the ballroom. There will be plenty of signage.
- Note that parking is somewhat limited in the conference center lot, but there is ample overflow parking at the Food Lion less than a block down the street.
- All other volunteers except those handing out bibs will receive further instructions at packet pickup.
- Those handing out bibs, PLEASE read below.
We are grateful to Hillsdale for donating this lovely space!
THOSE HANDING OUT BIBS: Please carefully read the instructions below, as the way we are handing out bibs has changed!
The Women's Four Miler will once again use dynamic bib assignment, which uses an app to assign a bib number to runners when they check in at bib pick up (instead of having bibs preprinted with labels that have the runner’s information). This system is newer to the W4M but not to many other races or our terrific race timing partners, Blue Ridge Timing. We think you’ll find this system to be very easy to use, and it will create a very positive experience for our runners. It’s quick and easy!
Last year, one volunteer did not complete the process correctly, resulting in approximately 50 runners not receiving their times. It is extremely important that the bib number the runner gets is the number assigned to them within the system. This is how times are associated with a runner.
Please carefully read the instructions below,
INSTRUCTIONS:
Before volunteering: download the RaceCheckin app on your phone or tablet and familiarize yourself with its features. Don’t worry—it’s really easy to use!
The password is 2025W4M! Please do not change any settings.
- When you come to packet pickup on Thursday, please bring your fully charged device (cell phone or tablet) on which you have downloaded the app, along with a charger (just in case!)
- Please arrive early so we can demonstrate the RaceCheckin app, if needed, and answer any questions.
- When you arrive, find a bib station with an open seat (we’ll have two volunteers per station), open your app, and select Charlottesville Women's Four Miler (under My Races) so you’ll be ready to start helping runners.
- You should be on the screen for Participants. Please do not change any other settings.
- Runners can come to any line to pick up their bibs.
- Unassigned bibs will be in piles in numerical order.
When you greet a runner:
- Type the runner's name in the search box.
- Alternatively, if they have a QR code, scan the code using the camera button next to the search box.
- Click on the person's name.
- IF multiple people have the same name, ensure you are selecting the correct person.

- Confirm that their age is correct on the screen; if not, assign their bibs and have them check in at the registration desk so we can correct the information.
- Click the 'Check In' box.
- Enter the number of the next bib on your pile.
- Click 'Assign Bib'.
- Confirm that the bib number you assigned is correct; if not, click the review button to go back and correct the bib number.
- Write the runner's name and shirt size on the provided label and attach the label to the bib.
- Click the 'Complete Check In' button.

- Once you click the 'Complete Check In' button, you will be taken back to the search menu.
- Confirm once again that the bib you assigned IS the bib you are handing the runner. If the numbers do not match, please send the runner to the registration desk with the bib number you intended to assign them so we can correct it. At this point, you can not fix it.
- Hand the bib to the runner, offer pins, and direct them to the shirt pickup stations.
- Clear the last runner's name from the search menu, and you are ready for the next runner.

Parking Volunteers Instructions
- Plan to arrive 5:15 – 5:30. Please email Art if you can come out before 5:00 to help us park the parkingvolunteers.
- Please wait to get out of your car if another car is parking next to you. And congregate north of the gravel path (see the graphic below).
- Please bring a flashlight (it will be dark when you arrive)
- Similar to last year, find attached my (updated) PDF W4M Parking Playbook. Please take 15 minutes to familiarize yourself with the overall scheme. It includes a diagram/explanation for each of the various parking Sites/Assignments – you will be assigned to one of them!
- Like last year, I have already identified ~ 15 lead parking volunteers who will train you in the ~ 20 minutes we have before the public starts arriving.
- There are a couple of changes since last year, including that the west-side has extra “West Hill” parking space.
- After we have parked the cars, help is needed with two additional volunteer tasks: (A) Staging the Runners, and (B) Stringing the Caution Tape (to get all the eastbound runners onto the right side of Garth Rd). Please consider helping with these additional duties (I will assign volunteers on race morning).
PLEASE NOTE:
We are ambassadors for the race. So while we want to keep cars moving, please be pleasant, upbeat, and welcoming!
This year we will park the volunteers (including us) by sending them past the gravel-path, and then them loop back to park. So please ignore muscle memory, and do not try to turn right onto the Gravel Path (unless you are setting up materials for the event).
