About Claremont Turkey Trot

Welcome to the 19th annual Claremont Turkey Trot presented by Claremont Sunrise Rotary. With a start/finish location at Claremont's Memorial Park, the scenic course winds its way through the tree-lined streets of the Claremont Colleges and the adjacent historic neighborhoods. A slight downhill grade on the last leg provides a welcome boost into the finish.

Every participant in both the 1K Kids Fun Run and the 5K Run/Walk receives a finishers medal and a race shirt. Race shirt availability is not guaranteed for late registrations, so please register early!

Bag Check

Bag check is located in the finish area. It opens at 7:15AM and closes fifteen minutes after the last participant crosses the finish line.

Steps to Use Our Bag Check System:

  • Place your belongings in a bag of your choice.
  • Remove the bag check tear away from the bottom of your race bib. See the image below.
  • A volunteer will attach the tear away (that has your bib number on it) to the bag and stow the bag.
  • After you finish the race, return to the same location where you left your bag. You must have your bib to collect your bag.

Please Be Aware:

  • All checked items must fit in the bag.
  • We cannot accept large items.
  • Belongings are checked at your own risk, we strongly recommend you only put clothing in your checked bag.
  • Please do not leave valuables. Claremont Sunrise Rotary and our sponsors are not responsible for damaged, lost and/or stolen items.
  • Unclaimed bags will be held for 30 days before being donated or discarded.

Welcome to the Claremont Turkey Trot costume contest, where creativity meets fitness! This year, we are looking for the most impressive, innovative, and hilarious costumes that will make us all want to gobble up some laughter!
The Claremont Turkey Trot costume contest is open to all event participants who love to have fun and don't mind showing off their silly side. Embrace your creativity with a unique twist on the traditional costume theme! Show off your one-of-a-kind attire, regardless of whether you're a classic icon, a fantastical character, or a symbol of your imagination. Get ready to dazzle us with your inventive and appropriate costume ideas!
No preregistration is needed, our judges will be on the lookout for participants who go above and beyond in their creativity and execution. Don't forget to bring your running shoes, though – the costume contest is just the beginning of the Turkey Trot experience.
What's at stake? A full year of bragging rights and the admiration of countless spectators and fellow participants as you strut your stuff.

FAQ

Q. What time do the two events begin?
A. The approximate start times are 7:30 AM for the 1K Kid's Fun Run and 8:00 AM for the 5K. The 5K will not begin until the 1K is complete, we know that lots of parents are juggling kids and taking turns at events and we do our best to make it easy.
 
Q. Are baby joggers/strollers allowed? Do kids in joggers/strollers need to be registered for the 5K?
A. Yes, but please be aware and stay clear of other runners. Young kids in joggers/strollers do not need to be registered for the 5K.
 
Q: Can my dog run with me?
A: Yes, well behaved dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash and under control of their owners. No retractable leashes, please be aware and stay clear of other runners.
 
Q. What is in the race packet? 
A. The race packet includes your bib and race shirt. Details can be found on the PACKET PICKUP page.
 
Q. Can I register at packet pickup? What about on race day? Do you accept credit cards at packet pick up and/or on race day?
A. All registrations are done online and may be done using a personal phone at packet pickup and on race day. The system updates immediately and we will be able to then check you in. However, the process is easier on a larger device and registering earlier helps make sure you get a shirt and may make you eligible for an early registration discount.
 
Q. Can I pick up my friend’s packet?
A. Yes you can. You only need the name they registered under to do so. Be sure to coordinate, we have had situations where someone picked up a packet for another and the original runner also showed up asking for their packet.
 
Q. Is there race day packet pick-up?
A. Official packet pickup schedule is on the PACKET PICKUP page. We highly recommend packet pickup be completed during this time. However, we realize it may be impossible for a some people to pickup their packet at the official times. We will have limited packet pickup the morning of the race, but come early! You do not need to notify the Race Director if you need to pick up your packet on race day.
 
Q. Will there be a place to leave a drop bag for the race?
A. Yes, details HERE.
 
Q. Where can I park on race day?
A. Race day parking is available on most Claremont streets near Memorial Park. Parking is not permitted on the course.
 
Q. When will the race results be posted?
A. Usually the same day on our website, barring unforeseen acts of providence.
 
Q. How are runner times tracked?
A. Each 5K bib has a timing chip on the back. Individual times start when the runner crosses the start line and ends when they cross the finish line. The 1K Kids Fun Run is not timed. 
 
Q. Does this race award a medal to finishers of the 1K Kid's Fun Run? What about the 5K Run/Walk?
A. Everyone in the 1K Kid's Fun Run receives a finishers medal. All participants in the 5K Run get a race shirt but not a participation medal. 

Q. Are there overall awards for the 5K?
A. Yes! Trophies are awarded to the top male and top female overall finishers. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers in each age division. Age divisions are <10, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, etc.

Q. I have a young child in the 1K Fun Run, do I need to be registered run along with them?
A. No, adults are welcome to run along and help their kid's during the fun run without registering. 
 
Q. Is water and/or first-aid available?
A. Yes. There is a water station at approximately the 1.5 mile point and 2.5 mile point on the 5K course and in the finish area. The first-aid station is located in the finish area.
 
Q. Will there be port-a-potties on the course?
A. Yes, are port-a-potties at the 1 mile and 2 mile points on the 5K course. There are additional restrooms/port-a-potties at the start/finish area in Memorial Park.

Q. How can I find photos of me at the Turkey Trot?

A. We use multiple photographers to capture the event, the pictures can be downloaded for free on our PHOTOS page. There is a feature to search by bib number, so we encourage runners to pin your bib so that it is visible from the front.

Referral Rewards

Earn $20 back for every 5 friends or family members you refer using your custom link. It's as simple as this:
  1. Copy your unique link from the confirmation E-mail or confirmation page pop-up.

  3. Once 5 people register with your link, you will be refunded $20 on the card you used to register for the race.
Keep going and for every 5 people you refer, you'll receive $20 back until your entire entry fee is refunded.

Team Challenge

The Claremont Turkey Trot has announced the launch of its highly anticipated team challenge for this year's event. The Turkey Trot Team Challenge is a unique opportunity for runners in the 5K to come together and compete as a team, with the aim of winning the prestigious title of the largest team in Claremont. The Claremont Turkey Trot team challenge is an exciting way to unite people, promote fitness, and encourage good health. The event promises to be a fun-filled day for participants and spectators alike, and it will surely become a highlight of the Claremont Thanksgiving calendar. Create or join a team when you register for the race, there is no additional fee.

Where Does the Money Go?

All proceeds from the Claremont Turkey Trot support the activities and projects of the Claremont Sunrise Rotary via Claremont Sunrise Rotary Foundation. Responsible leadership means more than just doing good work—it means making the most out of every donation we receive. We have identified specific causes to target to maximize our local and global impact.

Activities and projects in which members actively participated include:

  • Providing necessities for local students in need throughout the school year
  • Hosting blood drives in partnership with Huntington Hospital
  • Assembling toiletry bags for homeless
  • Conducting ice cream socials for seniors
  • Assembling back-to-school backpacks for homeless children
  • Building rest pavilion in Claremont Wilderness Park
  • Masks, sanitizer, and senior shopping during the worst of COVID-19
  • Assembling 1,000 prosthetic arms
  • Organizing and leading teens at leadership camp experiences twice each year

The Claremont Sunrise Rotary Foundation also financially supports the activities of other non-profits, including:

  • Foothill Family Shelter - housing homeless adults and children
  • ShelterBox - emergency disaster relief
