Come Out & Run 5k

A community event presented by Wilton Pride & Wilton Library

Join Wilton Pride and Wilton Library for the Third Annual Come Out & Run 5K celebrating PRIDE, diversity, inclusivity, and the spirit of unity in honor of National Coming Out Day.

All are welcome to this community-wide, family friendly, pet friendly, event fostering camaraderie, empowerment, and most importantly, support for our LGBTQIA+ community members and allies. Part 5K, part community party, the event will feature music, festivities, food, flare, prizes, and much more. Runners, Walkers, Kids, Strollers, and Leashed Dogs are welcome. 

Kids under 10 participate for free, but still need to register.

All 5K participants will receive a giveaway, digital race photos, post race festivities, and more!

NEW THIS YEAR: The Stiletto Dash! 👠

We will be kicking off the day at 8:30 AM with a spirited, 30-yard dash on the Wilton Town Green right before the 5K! Dash your way to glory and compete to win!

This fun dash is all about grace, style and speed but don't take it too lightly. To qualify for the prize and ultimate bragging rights, your heels must be at least 3 inches tall. Want an extra edge? Show your pride! Runners clad in Pride attire will score preferred placement right at the front of the starting line.

Rules of the Runway: 

• Registration: Must be registered for the 5K.

• Age: Must be 18+ years of age. 

• Stilettos Only: Wedge or block-style heels are not permitted if you want to win. Race staff has the final call on heel eligibility!

• Bring your own heels: To win the grand prize, heels must be 3 inches or taller.  Race staff have final approval.

• Pro-Tip: Taping your heels to your feet is highly encouraged.

• Play Nice & Clean: No pushing or shoving. Keep it fierce, but keep it friendly!

PACKET PICKUP

Pre-Race: Friday, September 18 from 3:00 PM to 5 PM  & Saturday, September 19 10:00 am TO NOON @ Wilton Library.

Day Of: 7:45 -8:45 AM @ Wilton Green
Yes, someone else may pick up your race packet for you. We strongly recommend picking up your packet before race day to avoid lines. Packets will not be shipped.

RACE DAY LOGISTICS

Packet pickup opens at 7:45 AM. There are always lines at Packet Pickup. For a stress-free morning, we advise picking up on Friday or Saturday at Wilton Library. (Someone can pick up your packet for you.)

We suggest arriving no later than 8:15 AM

Restrooms will be available at Wilton Library beginning at 7:45 AM

Please allow enough time to park and get to the start

Post race snacks and refreshments on the Green for all participants

The 5K will have one water station

PARKING & DROP-OFFS

There will be ample parking around Wilton Town Center. If you will be getting dropped off, please get dropped off at Wilton Library.

Will there be water on the in-person race course? Yes, there will be one water station that you will pass twice on the looped part of the course. We encourage you to carry your own fluids to save waste.

Where do I put my bib number? Pin it on your front. Do not remove the foam or the computer chip on the back. 

Can I wear my race shirt when I run? Of course! Wear the tee, or whatever you feel comfortable in.

Can I run with headphones? This is a huge safety issue. Please only use one earbud, or use open-ear-style headphones . You need to be able to hear police, volunteers, cars, and fellow runners. If you run with full-ear headphones you create a safety hazard for yourself and those around you (we’ve got stories). No personal speakers.

Is there a course time limit? There is a one hour time limit (that is approximately 19 minutes per mile pace) for the 5k. After that time (or slightly before as the police deem necessary), you will be asked to use the sidewalks as the roads will be completely open. 

I can’t run. Can I get a refund? No, there are no refunds for any reason (including injuries or medical issues). Please know that your money is going towards supporting 2 great non-profits and we appreciate you!

I can't make it to Package Pick Up, can a friend pick up for me?  Yes.

When and where can I pick up my bib? Pre-Race- Friday, September 18 from 3 PM to 5 PM @ Wilton Library, Saturday, September 19 from 10 AM to 12 PM @ Wilton Library. Day Of-Sunday September 20 from 7:45 to 8:45 AM @ Wilton Green

Does the race happen rain or shine?  Sure Does!  Unless there is a natural disaster that prevents a safe race course, there will be a race!

My friend/partner/spouse/child is not registered. Can they just run with me? NO! This is called "banditing" and is essentially using race resources without paying for them (a.k.a. stealing). It's also a safety issue, and even if that person doesn't take the medal or use the potties, they are still using resources they haven't paid for (police, EMS, permitting, labor, signage, etc) . We have capacity limits set for the race as per Wilton Police Dept, so it's also like crashing a wedding or party you didn't RSVP for. Please don't bandit races; create a legit registration instead.
