Please note, this event is a CUP-LESS RACE. There will be no cups provided at the water stops.  Please bring your own water bottles, bladders, or collapsible cups.  Thank you for supporting a sustainable future by reducing single-use cups!

Runners will start at the Wharf Street Lot and run east towards Henrico. After reaching the turn-around point near Messer Road, runners will run west and back towards the city. Runners will continue past the Start/Finish line and run past Dock Street Park and Great Shiplock Park to the Richmond floodwall. At the floodwall runners will turn around and run to the Finish Line.

You have until 11:59 PM on Friday, October 17th to make changes to your registration (like switch from the 10M to the 5k or vise versa).

Bring your photo ID, you must present your photo ID to get your race packet!

If you're picking up someone else's packet, you must have a copy of their photo ID!

Packet Pick Up (to receive bib number, timing chip, and shirt) will be:

• Friday, October 24: 3:00-6:00 PM at Lucky Road Run Shop, 1601 Willow Lawn Dr #838, Richmond, VA 23230.

• Saturday (race day), October 25: starting at 6:30 AM in the Wharf St parking lot

There is a $5 fee to replace a lost or forgotten bib/chip on race day.

The virtual option is only for those who cannot attend the in-person event on Saturday, October 25.

For virtual participants, we encourage (but don't require) you to run your 10M or 5k on the Virginia Capital Trail.  Take advantage of this virtual event to find and explore a new-to-you section of the Trail for your run.  Check out the Virginia Capital Trail Map for options.

Do your miles between October 1 and 31 - all month long!  To submit your finishing time, you need to visit the race's Results page and click Submit Virtual Results.  You'll also get email or text reminders during October with instructions. 

Share photos of your run or walk on the Cap Trail!  Upload them from the Photos page.

If you're signing up for a virtual race, your t-shirt and any purchased items will be shipped the first week of November to the shipping address you provide in registration.  Virtual participants will not receive a beverage ticket or a bib.

• Limit distractions, don’t impair your hearing

• Sept 1-30: $45 plus fees for ages 18+, $30 plus fees for ages 9-18

• Oct 1-23: $50 plus fees for ages 18+, $35 plus fees for ages 9-18

• Oct 24 (3-6 pm) & 25 (6:30-9am): $55 plus fees for ages 18+, $40 plus fees for ages 9-18

Discounts (applied at checkout)

• Richmond Road Runners Club, Colonial Road Runners, and Tri-Cities Road Runners members receive $5 off race fees.

• Runners ages 18 and younger receive $15 off race fees.

Runners must be at least 9 years old to participate in the Cap Trail 10 Miler and at least 5 years old to participate in the Cap Trail 5k.

Your registration includes one ticket redeemable for a complimentary in-house beverage of your choice at the Stone Brewing Tap Room.  Your beverage ticket must be redeemed by 12:00 PM on Race Day (10/25).

If signing up for a virtual race, your race items will be shipped the first week of November to the shipping address you provide in registration. Virtual race participants will not receive a drink ticket.

Event T-Shirt

The t-shirt is made of a premium technical material that is moisture-wicking and odor-resistant with UV sun protection.

All 2025 Dominion Energy Cap Trail 10 Mile & 5k racers are eligible for a complimentary ticket to Kings Dominion, Virginia's premier adventure park in Doswell. The e-ticket grants the run participant access for three visits within a five-day period, along with complimentary parking. Racers can also utilize a plus-one discount, offering accompanying guests of the rider/ticket holder a $40 day ticket (one-time use, unlimited users).

To receive the e-ticket before October 17th, participants must complete this form before 11:59pm on Tuesday, September 30th. Racers who email after midnight on October 1st and before the final deadline on October 10th, will receive their e-ticket by October 24th.

These tickets will not be available for the 2026 season, so be sure to get your visit in before the park closes on November 30th! Check out King's Dominion's schedule for the rest of the year here.

Join us in the Halloween Spirit!!  We will be holding a Spooky-Ooky pre-run Costume Contest on the morning of October 25.

Costumes are optional, but awesome and appreciated.  No entry is required.  You just need to be in costume and on-site!  Prize packs for the winners.

• 8:00 AM: Judging for 10M participants.

• 8:30 AM: Judging for 5K participants.

Our panel of judges will select winners and provide prizes in the following categories at both times:

• Adult Costume

• Youth Costume

• Family / Group Costume

   

Water Stops

There will be three water stops along the 10M route.  The first water stop will be available for 5k participants.

Keep Our Trail Beautiful! Unnecessary waste and trash is something we are working to eliminate at our events. As an organization dedicated to maintaining the health and beauty of the Capital Trail ecosystem, we are doing our part to reduce waste and go cupless. This means we are eliminating the use of disposable cups at our run.

This is a CUPLESS race.  Cups will not be provided at the water stops. 

Please bring your own water bottles, bladders, or collapsible cups.  Here are some products that we recommend:

Cyclists

There will be two cyclists on course, one leading the 10M and the other leading the 5k.  Once the winners finish, they will stay on course, communicating updates and issues to the Race Director, until the last participant finishes.

Police

There will be police present at the major road crossings to control traffic.

Emergency

In case of emergency, you must call 911.

Please note:  The course closes at 11:30 AM.

Parking will be available on a first come first serve basis at the Stone Brewing Williamsburg Avenue Lot and the Stone Brewing Nicholson Street Lot. The Williamsburg Ave lot will fill up. Dispersed street parking will also be available. General parking will NOT be available in the Wharf Street cobblestone lot.

We strongly encourage public/alternative transit! The GRTC Pulse rapid transit bus is FREE. There is a bus stop one block away from the Start/Finish line. Bicycle parking will be available in the Nicholson Street parking lot (bring a bike lock).

Additional parking is available in the Gillies Creek lot on Stony Run Rd off of Williamsburg Ave.  Street parking is available along E Main St and in the Rocketts Landing neighborhood.

The West Bound side of Williamsburg Ave will be closed between Stony Run Road and Main St.

• To access Stone Brewing’s Williamsburg Ave parking lot, you will need to be traveling east-bound on Williamsburg Ave.

• Gillie’s Creek parking can be accessed from the curb cut along Stony Run Rd.

• You can turn left onto Williamsburg Ave from Nicholson St to access Stony Run Road.

Wharf / Water / Nicholson St will be closed from the Intermediate Terminal to the Main St intersection. This is to ensure safety of runners and limit access to the cobblestone lot for parking. Limited accessible parking is available by request; please email steph@virginiacapitaltrail.org if that is needed.
