Forsyth County Education Foundation presents to you Dr. Jim and Peggie Morrow iChallenge!

Forsyth County Schools is not immune to the teacher and school counselor shortage facing our nation. We have found recent success “growing our own” by establishing teacher prep programs at all Forsyth County high schools, but face a large void when it comes to supporting the educational needs of current paraprofessionals (teacher assistants) who wish to advance to a teaching position and teachers who wish to advance to a school counselor role. Because of funds raised during the 2022 Dr. Jim and Peggie Morrow iChallenge, the Forsyth County Education Foundation gave out 16 staff scholarships to current paraprofessionals (teacher assistants) who wish to advance to a teaching position and teachers who wish to advance to a school counselor role!

With your help, the 2023 iChallenge will fund more of these much-needed staff scholarships for current FCS employees in these two areas again- current paraprofessionals (teacher assistants) who wish to advance to a teaching position and teachers who wish to advance to a school counselor role. Registration for participation in the iChallenge will begin on August 28th, and the iChallenge will run from October 2nd-31st.

The Benefits of Walking

While you can choose any activity (or activities) you want to complete the challenge, walking is likely the most low impact, highest benefit activity you can choose!

  • Heart Health: Walking regularly, even 5.5 miles per week, reduces the risk of cardiovascular events by 31% and cuts the risk of dying by 32%
  • Mental Health: Walking for exercise can ease stress and anxiety, and reduce the risk of major depression by 26%
  • Low Impact: Walkers have a low risk of injury due to the low impact of the activity
  • No Equipment: Good shoes can help, but you don't need any special equipment or membership. Weather bad? You can even walk in your house!
  • Weight Management: Depending on your weight, walking burn 100 or so calories every mile, and helps maintain healthy weights throughout a lifetime.

How to Incorporate Walking Into Your Day:

  • Walk at whatever pace feels comfortable
  • Walk and talk with friends
  • Listen to audiobooks,  podcasts, or music
  • Work walking into your day in small chunks through actions like parking farther away or taking short walks with your kids or dog

Charity Partner

Dr. Jim and Peggie Morrow began the Morrow Family Foundation many years ago providing devices and hotspots to thousands of students, and Forsyth County Schools is very grateful for their work. In 2022, they moved their foundation to the Forsyth County Education Foundation, a fund of North Georgia Community Foundation.

The Forsyth County Education Foundation is committed to growing the Dr. Jim and Peggie Morrow Glow Run for Educators 5K. Until 2022, the foundation focused on providing school grants with the Duck Dive for Education fundraiser, held each spring, but with the addition of the Dr. Jim and Peggie Morrow Glow Run for Educators 5K (formerly the iChallenge), the foundation has expanded its reach to a new area of need – ensuring we have the best of the best teaching and supporting our students!

Last year,  The Forsyth County Education Foundation transitioned from the virtual iChallenge to an in-person 5k-Dr. Jim and Peggie Morrow Glow Run for Educators.  Because of funds raised during the event, the Forsyth County Education Foundation gave out 17 staff scholarships to current teachers who wish to gain an advanced degree to better serve their students and needs of the school system.

This year, we will continue with the Glow Run and are excited to again provide a time for students, families, educators and the entire community to come out for an evening run and GLOW to raise funds for our SHINING STAR educators.  With your help, the 2025 Dr. Jim and Peggie Morrow Glow Run for Educators will fund more scholarships for very deserving FCS employees to further their education.
