----------------------------------------------------
The 5k course is a PURE out and back course. This means that you'll run 1.55 miles south to a turn around location. It is marked with signs that read "5k TURN AROUND" on both sides of the trail in addition to being manned by a course marshal to remind you, 5k runners, to turn around. At that point, you'll run back to the exact same line where you started along the exact same trail.
The half marathon course runs generally south in an out and back manner. Please follow all course marshal instructions and pay attention to signage. If you ran on a path on the way out, you will run on that same path on the way back. There are 3 aid stations that you will encounter a total of 7 times on this course.
Course Surface: The course is on Coal Creek Trail. The majority of both courses is on concrete. A portion of the half marathon is on gravel trail. (Gravel = approximately miles 4.5-8.5)
Cup-Free Finish Line: Although there are cups on the course at each aid station, remember that we always maintain a 'cup free finish'. There are coolers for refilling your personal water bottle at the expo area as well as a drinking fountain in the park.
Dogs: Well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed at the Erie Half/5k. We asked that they are kept on a short leash and that you start off to the side or near the back as to not impede other racers.
Strollers: Strollers are allowed. There is a small portion of the half course on gravel that might be a tiny bit difficult for strollers, but manageable.
SUPPORT:
WATER STATIONS:
At each water station, you will find water and an electrolyte replacement beverage. Energy gels will be at only ONE station, the southern most station which you will see at approximately mile 6.5.
Water stations are located at approximately miles 2.25, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 11 for the half marathon.
There is no water station on the 5k course.
Remember, there will be CUPS at the water stations, but not at the finish line. There will be a place to store water bottles at the finish.
PORT-A-JOHNS
Restrooms are located at the Expo area in addition to the first/final water station (approx miles 2.25, 9 and 11).

FAQs
No question is too silly to ask regardless of whether you're a rookie or a veteran. Help us improve the FAQ Page! Send your general or specific question(s) to info@3WRaces.com and type: "ERIE HALF FAQ" in the subject line!
WATER- CUP FREE FINISH
All 3W Races events maintain a cup free finish area. This means that water will be available for refilling your personal water bottles. Bins for holding your water bottle near the Finish Line will be available on race day morning. Biodegradable cups will be used on the course, but no disposable cups will be available at the finish line. Thank you!
WALKERS
Walkers and joggers should always stay to the right, faster runners should pass on the left. Walkers, please keep your groups down to two abreast so that others may pass you.
Since the Half Marathon course is open for 3 hours and 30 minutes, some walkers may desire to start EARLIER than the official start time so you can return to the finish before the finish line and expo close. You may start up to 60 minutes early, and must notify the race director in advance that you wish to do so.
Please note that aid stations are operational and course marshals are officially on duty at the time the regularly scheduled half marathon begins and may not be operational when walkers first pass.
PACKET PICKUP
Can't make it to advanced packet pick up? Send a friend, family member or teammate! We will allow others to pick up for you. Yes, there is same day pick up available generally starting 60-90 minutes before the first race starts. Avoid the lines; pick up early! It's not a secret...it makes race day run smoother for everyone when you pick up your gear in advance. That's why we give special raffle prizes and other cool stuff away to those who pick up early!!
If you can't make it to advanced packet pick up and have to miss out on the race we are unable to get you your packet. We try not to be wasteful; so all packets must be picked up on or before race day. Unfortunately we cannot hold it for you to pick up or mail it to you after the race. Any left over packets get recycled and/or donated immediately following the event.
If you can't run for any reason, please feel free to still pick up your packet at advanced packet pick up or on race day.

Military Discount
Yes! Send us your rank and branch to info@3WRaces.com and request a military discount code. We'll send you a 10% off code that you use on all 3W events throughout the calendar year in which it is requested. (Does not apply to 'packaged or bundled' races or virtual events.) You'll also receive special use instructions in the email at that time! Note: may be required to show proof at time of packet pick up!
Groups/Team Of 5 Or More
When you have a group of five or more, everyone saves $5! The way this works is as follows:
-Participant 1: Signs up first at full price and creates a TEAM. You will have to create a team name and a password so that only your group can sign up with you. (Click here for info on how to create a team.)-Participants 2 through 4: Register like normal making sure to join the team, at full price.
-Participant 5 and on: Signs up, joining the team as well, and notices their registration is $5 cheaper! WOO HOO!
Then, a $5 refund is automatically applied to participants 1 through 4 (assuming they paid at least $5.00 for the race!)
Cool, huh? Teams must be created or joined at time of registration. Team Rewards/Refunds will not be awarded retroactively. I.E: you must sign up for a team at registration to be eligible for the $5 discount or refund.
Click here for info on how to join a team when registering.
My coupon code/voucher isn't working, what do I do?
Thanks for your patience, this is an easy fix. First, DO NOT complete your registration. Please email us the voucher/coupon code, a little info on where you got it, and if applicable, a picture of the voucher/gift certificate. We'll get back to you shortly and look into why the code may not be working! If you're on a time crunch because of a price increase, don't worry, we'll honor it when we fix your code.
DOGS & STROLLERS
Your well behaved, leashed dog and well behaved, belted in child in a stroller are welcome at the Erie Half & 5K event. Please start in the appropriate wave with other dogs or strollers at the BACK of the pack to start. You do not need to register a child riding in a stroller.
Are Headphones Allowed?
Yes, you may run with headphones. We just ask that you leave one ear bud out or have the volume low enough to hear important announcements at the start/finish and volunteer/course marshal directions on the course!
Can my child run with me? Do I have to register them/pay for them?
Of course your kiddo can participate! If your child stays in the stroller the whole race, no, you do NOT have to register them as a separate participant. Our rule is, if they are using their own two feet to participate in one of our races, then, YES, you do need to register them. This is due to safety, participant counts for city permits and calculation of materials needed for the race!

SHIRTS & FINISHER MEDALS
The shirt is the same style, cut and logo design for both distances. Each 5k AND Half Marathon finisher will receive a FINISHER'S MEDAL at the finish line. You must finish the race to receive the finisher's medal.
On race day, you may visit the 3W Races Registration table/tent in the expo to exchange shirt sizes or purchase additional shirts while supplies last.
If your shirt size is not listed on the registration page, then we have sold out of that size. Please select the 'no shirt' option for a $5 discount. It is possible that some racers will not pick up their packets and you may be able to get a shirt in your size on race day after the race. Check with the 3W Races table in the expo!

TRANSFER DISTANCE/CANCEL REGISTRATION
Race registration fees are non-refundable. If you already registered and will not be racing with us on race day, you are still welcome to pick up your packet (shirt, bib, goody bag) during advanced packet pick up.
Transferring from distance to distance on the same race day can be done through the registration site directly for no additional fee other than the difference in pricing, if any, as long as spots are still available in the distance you wish to run. Log in to RunSignUp.com and click on the appropriate 'Transfer' tab at the top of the page. You can also transfer to another runner through that link.
If you want to transfer your registration to a different DATE of a 3W owned event, you can also do this through your RunSignUp account for a $15 fee. We will allow this when requested at least 72 hours BEFORE the start of the event. Run Sign Up will take what you paid, less the $15, and apply to another 3W Races Event date in the same calendar year that you select.

If that is the case, announcements will be made on our Facebook page and on the race webpage in addition to racer email communication. 99.9% of the time, the race will go on as scheduled.
