Run with us in our twelfth year!  Join us under the beam of the beloved Gay Head Lighthouse to Run for the Light, on Sunday, October 5th. 

As always, your registration fee will help support continued restoration and maintenance of the historic Gay Head Lighthouse in beautiful Aquinnah, Massachusetts.

When and where is packet pick-up?

Packet pickup will take place on Saturday, October 4th, at Lululemon in Edgartown (66 Main Street, Edgartown, MA 02539). 

Time 3pm-4pm.

Race day packet pickup will be at Aquinnah Circle, Sunday, October 5th, from 9:00 am - 10:00 am. 

 

Is registration available on race day?

Yes!  Registration will be available at packet pick-up on Saturday, as well as on race day Sunday.  The cost for in person registration will be $40, and payment must be made in cash or check.

 

I cannot participate in the race for which I am registered. Can I get a refund?

Gay Head 10k registration fees are non-refundable.

 

Can I transfer my bib number?

Gay Head 10K does not allow for bib transfers.

 

What happens if the weather is bad on race day?

The race will be held rain or shine, unless race officials determine conditions are unsafe. An email notice will be sent to all registered runners via RunSignUp with announcements in case of potentially unsafe race conditions. If necessary, an email announcing cancellation will be sent to registrants after a decision is made.

 

What time should I arrive on race day?

Arrive for the race about one hour in advance of the race start time. This will give you plenty of time to find the start line, use the bathroom one last time and put all your belongings in a secure location. Find your place behind the start line about 15 minutes before the start.

 

Is gear check available?

Gear check will be available at the runners' tent in the Gay Head Circle. All bags are subject to search for security purposes.

 

How many aid stations will be on the course?

Water stations will be located every 2 miles.

 

Where will results be posted?

Results will be posted on runsignup.com.

The Gay Head 10K began in 2013 as part of the Town of Aquinnah's efforts to save the beloved Gay Head Lighthouse from falling into the sea. Due to coastal erosion of the famous Gay Head Cliffs, the iconic structure was perilously close to the edge. The Lighthouse  was safely moved 129 feet away from the Cliff edge in 2015, and although the move was a success, funds are still needed for maintenance and to complete the restoration.

 

During the past two years structural repairs to the masonry have been completed to assure the integrity of the supporting structure.  The next phase of the restoration will repair the deteriorating metal work on the lantern level, address the corroded and rusted frames that hold the glass, as well as replace the cracked glass panels, and make repairs to the copper roof. We are in need of approximately $300,000 to complete this next phase. Thank you for your support!

Please pick up your packet at one of the following locations and dates. If you are not able to make it to either time yourself, a friend can pick up your packet for you (as long as you have already signed the liability waiver online).

AWARDS CEREMONY, POST RACE FEAST & FREE RAFFLE GIVEAWAYS

An award ceremony will take place on site at 11:30 am.  Prizes are awarded to the top three males and females in each age category.

In addition to the famous After the Race Feast, with delicious food supplied by local merchants - please stick around for our RAFFLE GIVEAWAYS - with $1,000's of dollars in prizes to be gifted via random (bib number) generator!  You must be present to win!

 

 

Beginning at the Gay Head Cliffs at 10:30 a.m., the course heads down State Road past the Aquinnah Town Hall, the Aquinnah Public Library and Wampanoag Tribal lands, up Moshup Trail along the beaches and crashing surf, and back to the lighthouse. Water stations are located every two miles along the course. Runners may check bags at the race tent located in the Gay Head circle, near the lighthouse.

 

Skates, scooters, skateboards, regular strollers and animals are prohibited on the course. Jogging strollers are allowed, but double jogging strollers are prohibited. If you choose to run with a single jogging stroller, please start at the rear of the pack. The course will close at 12:00 pm, and traffic will again be allowed on the roads. Timing will also close at 12:00 pm. 

 

 

 

A maximum of 200 runners may register for the Gay Head 10K. 

 

Online registration will close at midnight, Friday, October 3rd.  To guarantee your race shirt, please register online by September 4th.

 

EARLY BIRD PRICING - 10 days for 10Ks - race registration just $35 (for the first 10 days) until July 27th at 11:59 PM!  Registration pricing increases to $40 on July 28.

Registration will be available IN PERSON (Oct. 4-5) and will cost $40, with race day registration closing at 10:00 am.  Payment will be available to be made in CASH or CHECK only.

The course and timing will officially close at 12:00 pm. After 12:00 pm, auto traffic will again be allowed on the course.  This time will allow for roughly a 14:30 minute per mile pace.
