Gleaners Hunger Free Summer Race

Gleaners Community Food Bank is excited to announce the 2nd annual Hunger Free Summer 5K Run and Walk! With the support of our incredible community, Gleaners continues to work toward our mission of creating a food-secure Southeast Michigan.  

 

When school is out, many children lose access to the meals they rely on, but the Hunger Free Summer campaign helps bridge that gap. Gleaners can provide 3 meals for every dollar donated. Thanks to a match from Citizens and other generous donors, for every dollar raised through run registrations or donations, Gleaners can provide six meals to families facing hunger. 

 

Please join us as we race toward a food-secure community on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Freedom River in Brighton, Michigan.

 

Pricing: 

5k run/walk early registration including shirt $30 until 6/07, then $35 with limited shirt sizes available. $40 on race day with no shirt.  

1 mile fun run/walk early registration including shirt $25 until 6/07, then $30 with limited shirt sizes available. $35 on race day with no shirt. (please note the 1 mile run/walk is an untimed event)

 

Awards:  Running Lab gift certificates to the Overall Male and Female finishers and Overall Master Male and Female Winners. Awards to the top 3 in age groups (male and female) 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

 

Early Packet Pickup: June 18 | 4:00-7:00 PM, The Running Lab | 409 W Main St, Brighton, MI 48116

Race Day Packet Pickup:  June 20 | 7:00 AM, Race Location - Freedom River | 6716 Winans Lake Rd. Brighton, MI 48116

 

Parking: Plenty of onsite parking 

 

Course:  Cross country type course including trails, fields, pavement with slight hills. Race is chipped timed.

 

Team awards: Award for the Largest Team, the Most Spirited Team, and the Largest Fundraising Team. See "Teams" at the top of the page for more information. 

 

Results: The race will be professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation. Results are live during the event and posted on this website. 

 

T-shirts are guaranteed with entry by Sunday, June 7th. Shirts and sizes are limited after that date. Register early to secure your size. Adult and Youth sizes available.

Gather your friends and let the fun begin!  We are offering awards for the Largest Team, the Most Spirited Team, and the Largest Fundraising Team.

There are two separate 'team categories' within Run Signup: Social Teams, just for fun, to see how many people you can get on your team and Fundraising Teams, to see how much money your team can raise. You can do both and have them the same name. 

You will be asked during registration if you would like to Join or Create a team. If yes, follow the steps. This is for Social Teams only. If you would like to also Join or Create a Fundraising Team that step will be further along during the registration process.

Donate $100 and you'll receive a FREE entry! Discounted entry fees for donations of $75 - $50!

Free entry is valid until 6/07 then it's a $30 discount off the entry fee for the 5k, $25 for the 1 mile, with a $100 donation. 

Steps to receive your free/discounted entry:

1. Choose Sign Up and follow the steps to register for the race

2. You will be routed to the Donation page during registration, choose the donation level

3. Your discounted/free entry will be reflected in the cart during checkout.

* Please note if you go to the donation page first and enter the donation the discount will not be applied for a free entry. You must register by choosing Sign Up first.

On Friday evening, June 19th, the H.E.R.O Freedom Run honors service, sacrifice, and freedom, followed by the Gleaners Hunger Free Summer Run on Saturday morning, June 20th, supporting families and children in need. One Community. Two Causes. Moving Together for Good. Take part in both races and you’ll earn a special challenge medal—a symbol of making a difference, together. 🏅
