Heckscher Classic 7 & 14 Mile Trail Race

Run the scenic perimeter of Heckscher State Park in the Heckscher Classic! Choose between a 7-mile or 14-mile course on smooth, runnable trails. Perfect for both new trail runners and experienced athletes.

The course follows the perimeter of Heckscher State Park in a clockwise direction and will be clearly marked.

This event is one step up from a fat ass–style run. Timing will be done by hand, and a basic aid station with water and light snacks will be available at the start/finish area (mile 7).

Each participant will receive a finisher’s medal, and awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Participants will also receive a Heckscher Classic Bucket Hat!

Participants in the King of the Hill 3-Hour Run on March 7th at Sunken Meadow State Park will receive $10 off race registration.

Founded in 1978, the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference is a unique non-profit grassroots organization that has created more than 200 miles of hiking paths on Long Island, including three National Recreation Trails. We are dedicated to protecting open space and our scenic Greenbelt trails for all to enjoy.

Since our founding, we have led more than 7,000 guided hikes, and now lead more than 200 free guided hikes each year. Our volunteers have donated a total of 500,000+ volunteer hours to Long Island’s parks and trails.

The Heckscher Classic will take place at 1 Heckscher State Parkway, East Islip, NY 11730. Parking is available at Fields 3 and 4.

You will grab your bib before the run starting at 7:45 a.m.

We are working to finalize a new course. The general route is in the map below. An exact course will be posted as soon as possible.

In trying to keep waste to a minimum, we are requesting that participants are responsible for their trash. We will have garbage bags set up at the snack tent and water refill station for participants to use. We will be cupless, and you are responsible for having your own cup/bottle/bladder to use for liquids. 

Please do not leave trash on the trails.

We will have a water refill station at the start/finish area at mile 7 of the loop. Please note this is a cupless event, and runners must bring their own cup, bottle, or bladder.

We will have light snacks like pretzels, chips, and candy at the start/finish (mile 7) for everyone running the race.

Be cool and look cool with the poly bucket hat. Featuring - 95/5 polyester/spandex, moisture-wicking sweatband, unstructured
classic fit, and eyelets for breathability.

All finishers will receive a 3D printed wooden medallion.

Top three male and female finishers will receive a wood-engraved coin to add to their medallion.

The Long Island Endurance Club will be hosting group runs at Heckscher State Park, meeting at the Field 3 entrance, on the following dates:

Saturday, March 14th at 8:00 a.m.
Sunday, March 22nd at 8:00 a.m.
