About HRCA Wildcat Mountain Trail Races
The Wildcat Mountain Trail Races showcase some of the most scenic terrain in the HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Area, giving runners a true taste of the rolling hills, open views, and natural beauty surrounding Wildcat Mountain. Each fall, participants take on two distances—a 10-mile and a 10K—designed to highlight the area’s unique, beautiful trails.
The race begins at the Douglas County East/West Trailhead at Rocky Heights Middle School and follows the E/W Trail into the Backcountry, linking directly into the Wildcat Mountain trails.
Adult registration includes:
- Dry-fit race t-shirt
- Custom race bib
- Custom finisher medal
- Pancake breakfast from Flippin' Flapjacks
- Post-race beers compliments of Living the Dream Brewing
Kids’ Races
Race day will end with a series of untimed, just-for-fun kids’ races, giving young runners an easy and exciting way to be part of race day. Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming introduction to trail running, and these short races offer the perfect opportunity for kids ages 0–12 to get involved. Registration is only $10, and every participant receives a finisher medal.
Distances vary by age to ensure a fun and manageable experience for all: Ages 2–4 run approximately 0.25 miles, Ages 5–7 run about 0.62 miles, Ages 8–10 take on roughly 1 mile, and Ages 11–12 complete a 2-mile course.
Kids' registration includes:

FAQ's
Are pets and strollers allowed on the course?
No, our backcountry trails are mostly single track and gravel and pets are not allowed in the area. Furry friends and strollers are best left at home.
What if it rains on race day?
We plan to race rain or shine! The only reason we would postpone the race is if significant rain makes our dirt trails dangerous to participants.
Can I register on the day of the race?
There will be no onsite registration for this race however registration will remain open online until the day of the race. If you're interested in joining us last minute, please register online and our system will be able to check you in real-time.
Can I wear headphones?
Yes, however, it is strongly discouraged as the safety of all participants is our main priority. If you do decide to wear headphones please keep them at a low volume to ensure you can hear what is going on around you.
Does it cost money to park?
Nope! Free parking is available at Rocky Heights Middle School but space can be limited. Carpooling or getting dropped off is always preferable.
Will there be restrooms on-site?
Yes, restrooms will be available at the south end of the Rocky Heights Middle School.
Will medical personnel be on-site?
We will have medical services located near the start/finish line.
Will there be an aid station on the course?
There will be one aid station with water accessible at the 1.5-mile/4.5-mile mark of our 10K course and at the 1.5-mile/6.5-mile/8.5-mile mark of our 10M course.
Is there a cutoff time for the race?
Yes, our finish line will close at 11:00 a.m.

Packet Pick Up

Race Day Packet Pickup
You will be able to pick up your timing bib and race shirt beginning at 7:00 am on race morning. There will be no on-site registration; however, registration will remain open online until the start of the race, and racers will be able to register and pay, in real-time, on their mobile phone.
Course Description
The Wildcat Mountain 10K | 10M Trail Race has awesome views and fun, varying terrain. The course is 100% dirt trails. Runners will have the potential to view wildlife along the way as well as soak in the amazing mountain views.
There will be aid stations available. In our effort to respect the trails and follow the principles of LEAVE NO TRACE, we are trying to eliminate trash left on the trails. Bringing your own hydration system is highly encouraged. Aid stations will be stocked with water.
For the safety of participants and potential Backcountry Wilderness Area wildlife, dogs and strollers are not allowed.
Kids Race
First-time trail runner? This course is a perfect distance to try out trail running.
Our goal is to create a safe and fun environment for all to enjoy trail running, and this is the perfect way to introduce your little one to trail running. Only $10 for all kids and every kid gets a finisher medal! (0-12 years old, no shirt included)
