FAQs
FAQ'S
1. I have never done a triathlon before. Am I crazy?
A. NO. This series is absolutely perfect for first-timers. You will find the courses well marked so it's pretty impossible to get lost. The seasoned triathletes were all there once too. You will find them incredibly helpful and friendly at our events. If you have specific questions please feel free to reach out to us via email or text.
2. Is there a cut off time? What if I am really slow.
A. NO cut off times. We will be there to cheer you in as you get to the Finish Line.
3. Do I need a wetsuit?
A. NO. We recommend them but they are not necessary. Several of our participants do not wear one. And, if you have one, it doesn't matter if it is full sleeve, sleeveless, etc...whatever you are most comfortable in. *Please, please, do not wear a wetsuit for the very first time during a race. Practice is important.
4. What if I am a really slow swimmer. Will you pull me out of the race?
A. NO. No cut off times. We have certified lifeguards in kayaks in the water. You may rest next to a kayaker, float on your back, use a personal life buoy for comfort.
5. Is it ok if we bring our dog?
***Dogs are prohibited from being brought to the race. If you, or any family member, or your spectators, bring a dog to the race, we will disqualify the athlete. NO refunds.
Dogs are not permitted in the day-use area of Kenneth L. Wilson State Park and all race activities take place in the day-use area.
A race is not a place for the family pet. This is for the safety of our participants, their families, and your dog as well. If you have never been chased, wildly barked at, or bitten by a dog while cycling or running then consider yourself one of the lucky ones. Dogs and bikes and runners do not mix and to eliminate any fear, or the possibility of accidents, we insist that dogs not be brought to the race site. Your dog may be very well-behaved, but this is not the place for them. Thank you for your understanding and for enforcing this with your family and friends.
6. I don't have a specific triathlon bike or even a very nice road bike. Are there bike requirements?
A. No worries. We have had several folks race on a hybrid, a mountain bike or even a 10-speed. Your handlebars cannot have open ends due to safety.
A helmet is an absolute MUST!
7. Can my friend run alongside me to pace my run and keep me company?
A. NO. No one other than registered athletes on the course.
8. I may need to walk some of that run course. Will the aid station and finish line still be up?
A. Yes. NO cut-off time. Period.
Military/First Responder Discount
*please note that discounts are not offered during early bird pricing
What we mean by Athlete Centered Racing
This is just some of what it means to us when we say Athlete Centered Racing:
- Pre-race; you will hear back from Mark H. Wilson - Race Director or Tonia H. Wilson - Race Administrator within 24 hours when you send us an email or text and we will do our best to accommodate you.
- The Athlete Guide is published early so that you have time to understand parking, check-in, race rules, etc and time to ask questions if you don't so that you are prepared on race day.
- Race day; we will provide ample signage so that you can find your way around the venue and on the courses. It's pretty hard to get lost on one of our courses.
- Time; everyone's time is important. Our races will start on time. Please respect that both for yourself and for the others racing with us.
- Friendly, non-threatening atmosphere; you will be treated with respect, welcomed and appreciated. We ask that you treat us and our volunteers and staff the same.
- Size of races; our largest triathlon will not be over 350 participants by choice. We like the small field of athletes so that we can make it a fun and safe experience for everyone.
- On-course support; this is a biggie for us! On any of our run courses you will find the following items; Hammer Nutrition Gels, HEED and Endurolytes, water, (ice if a hot day), first aid kit. For the larger races (OnondagaMan and CassadagaMan) you will find an aid station on every mile of the run with Coke, candy, chips/pretzels, and fruit. You never know what you will need at that moment and neither do we, but it will be there in case you do. It may be self-serve as we don't always have enough volunteers to cover all of them, but it will be there for you.
- Environment; ample trash and recycle containers at the race site and on course. We ask that you do your best to help us. Our biggest pet peeve is littering! Please don't do it. (We have and will DQ you) Hold on to it until you can dispose of it properly. Pay attention to which container you are using. And, as you leave the race site, please take care of the race site as if it were your own backyard.
- Post-race; FOOD! Real food. Each race is different, whether it's pancakes made by the Race Director, potluck picnic, pizza delivered in, or grilled burgers, and dogs, you will be fed. Beer Zone by our amazing sponsors at Southern Tier Brewing Company. You will walk away not just with a race under your belt, but a fun, fulfilling after-party for you and your spectators.
We are proud of our races and what we offer to our participants. We are not out to make millions; just to make a living while creating something that gives you an opportunity to accomplish great things. We love the friends and family that have been created by our events. When we say a Wilson Endurance Sports event is Grass-roots, Athlete Centered racing, we truly mean it.
