About Us
Huffing For Stuffing is back for our 20th year!
Huffing For Stuffing combines community spirit with a lively race atmosphere to make sure no one goes to bed hungry in our community. Since our inception in 2007, Huffing For Stuffing has provided over half a million dollars in funding to our local food bank! The race is held each Thanksgiving morning at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana. All abilities are welcome. HRDC’s Gallatin Valley Food Bank believes everyone deserves to have access to nutritious foods and we work hard to act as the crucial link between food and the people who need it. High housing costs and underemployment continue to push people in Southwest Montana towards food insecurity. That is why we ensure the Gallatin Valley Food Bank is available for any community member.

Become a Sponsor
Our sponsors make an impact!
It is only because of our sponsors’ generosity and dedication that Huffing For Stuffing has raised over half a million dollars since 2007 for HRDC's Gallatin Valley Food Bank. Sponsorships allow us to direct critical dollars towards helping fight food insecurity in our community.
The Huffing For Stuffing family extends a thankful appreciation to all our past and present sponsors who provide the support to make Huffing For Stuffing a success.
Want to become a part of the Huffing For Stuffing legacy and sponsor this year? I would love the opportunity to discuss sponsorship and participation opportunities with you. Please contact me with any questions:

Course Information
SAFETY:
Please note the start/finish line locations.
The course is coned and marked very well, but it is open to traffic. There will be volunteers and certified flaggers at most intersections. Please remain on the right side of the road unless otherwise directed. Because the course is open to traffic, we recommend that all participants wear bright clothing to improve visibility.
We ask that all faster participants yield right of way and go around when overtaking slower participants.
Participants should be aware that the 5K and 10K courses merge at the intersection of Wagon Wheel and South 3rd. Please follow volunteer instructions and run in the correct channel to avoid unnecessary congestion.
Music devices and earbuds/earphones are strongly discouraged. For your safety and the safety of those around you, it is recommended that you leave the music at home on race day. If you do carry music, you must still be able to hear instructions from race officials, directions from course volunteers, motorists that may have made their way onto the course, and warnings from participants that may be overtaking you.
Dogs are not allowed (with the exception of required service animals).
LINING UP ON RACE DAY:
Due to the number of runners, Huffing For Stuffing utilizes a corral system in the museum parking bays for the race start. It’s easy! Just like boarding a plane–wait until your group (corral number) is called. Look at the color of your race bib and find the corresponding bib-colored pace sign in your corral based off the pace you would normally run your distance. You will be funneled up to the race start once the events beginning before you take off.

Corral #1 - 10K - Line up facing NORTH. Find your pace sign. Corral #1 will release the 10K promptly at 8:50 am
Corral #2 - 5K Timed - 6:00 to 7:45 min/mile pace, line up facing SOUTH.
Corral #3 - 5K Timed/Untimed - 7:50 to 9 min/mile pace, Untimed Runners, Walkers, and Strollers, line up facing SOUTH
Strollers are allowed, but we ask that you start toward the back of your corral.

Huffing for Stuffing's 20 Year History and Tribute to John Dudas
On Thanksgiving morning 2004, race founders John Dudas and Tim went for a
run along the Linear and Sourdough trails. Their run was to commemorate the long-
standing holiday tradition of enjoying a Thanksgiving Day road race–quite common
among their east coast roots and most metropolitan areas of the country.
John and Tim met again to enjoy their new annual tradition on Thanksgiving Day of '05
and '06. One of them pondered aloud, “How cool would it be to have a Thanksgiving Day
run in Bozeman? I bet the community would support it. Look at how many people are
outside, anyway!” It was at that moment that John committed to starting an event for the
following Thanksgiving. Soon after, John garnered support from the Big Sky Wind
Drinkers running club.
Our name is entirely unique and was born of a message board survey on
Coolrunning.com asking for suggestions of the most bring-a-smile-to-your-face name
one could think of. Bill from Georgia offered “Huffing and Puffing for Stuffing” which was
by far the best of the 100+ suggestions offered.
Our inaugural race in 2007 had 931 participants and we donated proceeds of $8,000 to
HRDC’s Gallatin Valley Food Bank. In 2009, a committee was formed to build the race
into what it is today. Huffing for Stuffing has grown a bit since then, with 3,239
participants in 2024, but our community spirit and mission to support our food bank
stays the same.
The first year, Bozeman Deaconess Hospital (Bozeman Health) was our home, and since
2008 the Museum of the Rockies has been our host location. Over the years the gross
revenue generated has hit 1.6 million dollars with a net of 723,383. We love that this
has become a holiday tradition for many folks in our community.
● Largest # of participants was 2016 - 4,513
● Only five years did the race exceed 4,000 participants.
● 2026 will mark the 20th year of Huffing for Stuffing
The race would not be without John, Tim and the Wind Drinkers. John passed away in
May of 2025. We run the 2025 Huffing for Stuffing in his and his family’s honor. They
gave their Thanksgiving’s to HRDC’s Gallatin Valley Food Bank for 18 years and by
doing so provided a holiday tradition as well as thousands of dollars to making sure
nobody goes to bed hungry.
Packet Pickup
and In-Person Registration
Wednesday, November 25th during TWO time windows:
7:30 am to 1:00 pm OR
3:00 pm to 7:00 pm
HRDC's Market Place (206 E Griffin Drive)
All participants are highly encouraged to stop by on Wednesday to pick up their race packet, bib, and HFS shirt. We also allow registration in person. Shirts will only be available at Packet Pickup, not on Thanksgiving morning.
Upon arrival, please choose any line to pick up your materials. We will also feature our Solutions Table should you have any questions or concerns. BYOB (bring your own bag) if you are picking up multiple shirts and bibs to help us reduce our waste!
Race day registration will be available on Thanksgiving morning at the Museum of the Rockies from 7:00 am to 9:00 am. Expect a crowd and arrive early. Please keep in mind that shirts will not be available for race day registration.
We are excited to welcome you to Packet Pickup at HRDC's Market Place! This means Packet Pickup will not be at the fairgrounds like previous years.
Parking
There is onsite parking available at HRDC's Market Place, but please note that parking may be limited, particularly around the open hours of our food bank and Fork & Spoon (our pay-what-you-can restaurant). Packet Pickup will close during the food bank's shopping hours (1:00-4:00 pm). Street parking is available along Manley Road and Industrial Drive. Please do not park in the lots of surrounding businesses. If possible, we highly encourage carpooling with friends and family who will also be participating. We also welcome you to pick up packets for your friends and family.
Parking
Parking is available at the MSU Fieldhouse, University Police Station, Greek Way, and east of the museum near the Postal Annex and Pilgrim Church.
Parking is NOT permitted in the Museum of the Rockies lot or the EAST Stadium Lot (this is the Kids’ Run Course). Kagy will be closed from South 7th to South 3rd. If you choose to park east of the museum, please walk on the EAST side and NORTH side of the SIDEWALK—the SOUTH side of Kagy and the WEST side of South 3rd are part of the race course.
Expect traffic delays. The races will start on time! Plan accordingly and dress warm.
