About Illinois & Wisconsin Road Race State Championship - Boone County Road Race
Road racing is back in a big way. Join us east of Belvidere, IL for the Boone County Road Race. This will be a joint USAC Road Race State Championship for both Illinois and Wisconsin. This title hasn't been awarded in Illinois for almost ten years—don't miss your chance to claim it.
Open to all riders. The road race takes place on a 21.5 mile course on the rural farm roads of Boone County featuring long straight sections of exposed roads leaving riders no place to hid. Throw in a few rolling hills and technical corners the rider who earns the title champion will have to show their true midwestern grit. Let’s bring racing back to the Midwest.
The current schedule will be as follows:
9:00am - M CAT1/2 - 90 miles (4 laps)
9:06am - M CAT 3 - 69 miles (3 laps)
9:12am - M Masters - 69 miles (3 laps)
9:18am - M CAT 4/5 - 47 miles (2 laps)
9:24am - W CAT 1/2/3 - 69 miles (3 laps)
9:30am - W Masters & CAT3/4/5 - 47 miles (2 laps)
9:36am - Open - 25 & 47 miles (1 & 2 laps)
Start times & distances are subject to change based on number of registrants. Fields may be added, split up or combined based on attendance.
Illinois & Wisconsin will each crown Male & Female Champions in the following categories:
Cat 1
Cat 2
Cat 3
Masters 40+
Masters 50+
Masters 60+
(No junior race due to regulations for 2026)
How will you know who you are racing?
+ Riders racing for an Illinois State Championship will receive Orange numbers paying homage to the Chicago Bears & University of Illinois.
+ Riders racing for a Wisconsin State Championship will receive Green numbers paying homage to the Green Bay Packers & Milwaukee Bucks.
+ All other riders will receive white numbers.
To be eligible to be an Illinois or Wisconsin state champion, USA Cycling & Illinois Cycling Eligibility Regulations stand.
1) There must be at least 5 riders in the classification from your state.*
2) To be eligible for a State Championship jersey or medal, a rider must hold a current USA Cycling annual license and reside in the state as shown on the rider’s USA Cycling annual license.
Please consider purchasing registration insurance for the event. This is the only path to receive a refund or deferral.
*- in the case of a lack of riders in:
Masters 60+ then Masters 60+ will combine with Masters 50+
Masters 50+ then Masters 50+ will combine with Masters 40+
Masters 40+ then Masters 40+ riders will ride in the category specified on their USAC license
CAT3 then CAT3 will combine with CAT1/2
