Meet Our Beneficiary

This year's beneficiaries are Dave Komor and Emily Khan.

David was born and raised in St. Louis and is a CBC Alum! He graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He started his career in pharmaceutical sales where he met his wife Jennifer. They have two children; Clay a Mizzou graduate and Rachel who is at University of Arkansas. Dave was diagnosed with ALS on February 27, 2025. He believes break through developments for ALS cures are on the horizon. AI is accelerating ALS research by analyzing massive data sets to identify new therapeutic targets, predict disease progression, and enable personalized treatments. The cost of research for ALS cures continues to rise. He is honored to be a part of this years Jim Schoemehl run and appreciates all the local support for this important event.

Emily was born and raised in St. Louis and is a Nerinx Alum! She attended the University of Tulsa to study accounting and economics. She then attended Washington University, where she met her current husband. She has a 6-year-old boy who attends the College School in Webster! Emily was diagnosed with ALS in December of 2024. She shared that although there is no cure, they are so close to finding one. The research for ALS needs to continue, along with local support for ALS.

Mission

The Jim Schoemehl 5k Run was created in 2001 by a marketing/DECA student when a Webster Groves High School teacher’s husband, Jim Schoemehl, was diagnosed with ALS in September. The run was named after him and his family in honor of their fight. Unfortunately, Jim lost his battle with ALS, but his legacy lives on in the annual run.

The tradition continues this year with the 25th annual event. This run is still organized by Webster Groves High School seniors in their Marketing course.

Proceeds from the run will benefit a local family battling ALS and The ALS Association of St. Louis.
