About Kansas City Temple Run

About the KC Temple Run
Established in 2011, the 15th annual Kansas City Temple Run is a 5K run made successful by more than 2000 participants yearly. Kansas City Temple Run attendees have donated truckloads of food and thousands of hygiene and cleaning items to various local charitable organizations including Valor Ranch (2019), Amethyst Place (2021), Della Lamb (2022), Hillcrest Platte Country (2023), Mothers Refuge (2024) and Veterans Community Project (2025). 

The Kansas City Temple Run was established to celebrate the Kansas City, Missouri Temple and strengthen the faith, health and community involvement of participants. All are invited and encouraged to register and participate in this wonderful event.

Frequently Asked Questions

 

Is this a charitable event?
Yes. This is a free, family-friendly event benefiting the community and a local charity. Temple Run participants are invited to donate items at the race, or make a financial donation HERE.. 

 

What if I don’t want to run or walk, can I still participate?
Yes, we'd love to have you sign up as a volunteer. From helping with registration, to handing out water, to helping with t-shirts, there are many volunteer opportunities you can help with. Aren't able to volunteer? No worries. The KC Temple Run is a family event and you don't need to register to watch and/or cheer on the runners – just show up and enjoy being a part of this community event.

 

Where can I park?

Can I bring a stroller?
Yes. Strollers are permitted, but please be considerate of other runners. We encourage those with strollers and jogging strollers to start further back, allowing the runners a clear path. Also, anyone on the course needs to be registered – this includes infants and children in strollers.

 

Will the course be blocked to vehicular traffic?
Yes. Roads will be blocked to all vehicles. There will be police officers and volunteers (wearing “Helping Hands” vests) at the beginning and end of the course.

 

What is the distance of the Kids Runs?
The children will run approximately 100 yards.

 

Can kids do all the runs: 5K, Family Run and the Kids 100 Yard Dash?
Yes, kids can participate in the 3K Walk or 5K Run, as well as the Kids 100 Yard Dash. Please register them for just one event, and then they can still participate in both.  

 

Are pets allowed?
No, unfortunately, pets are not allowed.

Is there a registration deadline?
Registration deadline is Saturday, August 30, 2025, by Midnight CST.

 

Will medals be awarded for top times? 
Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age category, male and female. Categories include (14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+). All participants in the kids’ races will receive a prize. Runners must have timing chips for times to be recorded and ranked. Medal's will be handed out at 10:15am.

 

Are there any fees associated with this race?
While the race is completely free, if you would like a timing chip or a t-shirt, there are small fees associated with it. The timing chip is priced to just cover costs, and the pre-ordered t-shirts cost $15.

 

Does the t-shirt have anything on the back?
No.

 

How can I buy a t-shirt? Will shirts be available to purchase on race-day?
Yes, shirts will be available on race-day, but in limited quantities and sizes. T-shirt cost on race day may be increased. T-shirt sales sponsor this free event.

 

What if I ordered a shirt, but can't attend the race?
T-shirts will only be distributed the day of the race. If you will not be attending the race, you will need to make arrangements to have someone pick up your shirts.

Parking

Parking is free-of-charge, but limited. The Kansas City Police Academy's parking lot will fill up fast, so carpool if possible and plan to arrive early. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple parking lot and street parking will also be available. Volunteers will guide you to parking spots.

This free event is hosted and funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Any donations to help fund this event are greatly appreciated! We would love to continue hosting this event every year!

The Kansas City Temple Run is fun for the whole family! Whether you run the 5k with a timing chip or without, walk the 3k with your kids, push a stroller, or have your children run in the Kids' Race the Temple Run has always been a family affair. You can also purchase t-shirts for the whole family and donate items to support a local charity!

We do ask that pets, scooters & bikes stay home.
