About Loudoun Mini Athletes' Tri
WE. ARE. BACK! Live and in-person... and calling all youth athletes to grab their gear and prepare to splash, flash and dash in the 10th running of the Loudoun Mini Athletes' Tri on Saturday, August 2 , 2025 at 8 AM.
Swim laps in the pool at the Broadlands Community Center, bike ride around the Broadlands neighborhood on the bike course and run through the Broadlands tunnel and track for your run.
Young athletes of all levels ranging ages 6-16 are welcome to participate! All triathlon participants will receive a participation medal at the finish line, a bag of goodies to include our commemorative race bragging shirt.
Awards will be awarded to winners in the following age groups 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15 - 16 years of age.

Bike: 1 mile (ONE LOOP)
Run: .90 mile
Young Athletes: ages 9 - 11
Swim: 100 meters
Bike: 2 miles (TWO LOOPS)

Oldest Youth Athletes: ages 12 - 14
Swim: 150 meters
Bike: 3 miles (THREE LOOPS)
Run: 1.50 miles
Adult Athletes: ages 15 & 16
Swim: 200 meters

Run: 1.75 miles

We strongly encourage each athlete to KNOW THEIR COURSE. While volunteers are posted along the course, and signage and cones are used to help mark the course, the responsibility of knowing the details of your course falls on the athlete.

Ages 12 - 14 Bike Course
- Please review the course with your athlete. -
- Helmets must be properly worn and the chin strap fastened prior to leaving the transition area for the bike element. Helmet must remain on and fastened at ALL times while on the bike.
- Handle bar ends must be capped/covered for safety. Any handle bars with lost caps or covers, will be covered with duct tape. Please be sure to bring bike and helmet to Packet Pick up for inspection.
- Athletes may not get on their bike until they have left the first Transition area – volunteers will remind athletes of this and assist with mounting and dismounting locations.
- No weaving is allowed as there will be other riders coming up behind you. Stay to the right unless passing. When passing a rider in front of you, call out to them “PASSING”, so they are aware. Move back to the right once you are clear of them. Watch out for other bikers.
- Athlete must follow the directions from the police and course marshals. They are there to keep you safe. You must stay inside of the cones/to the right of the cones placed on the road.
- Athletes must dismount from their bike before re-enter the transition area. Volunteers will be there to assist.
- Athlete will need to check the course maps to see age group course. Know your course and know the number of laps you will need to complete the course.
- Volunteers will be placed along the course to assist athletes in staying on the course as well as course signage with directional arrows. However, knowing the course and number of laps needed to complete their course milage is the responsibility of the athlete.

The finish line is located in the parking lot of the Broadlands tennis courts off of Waxpool Rd.

Packet Pick Up, Pre-race Clinic & Bike Inspection
Thursday, July 31st from 5 PM - 6:30 PM
The pre-event clinic is designed to answer questions from parents and youth athletes. Final course maps will be available for review, and we encourage athletes to “test drive” the bike course as well as take a walk on the run course. We will be available for questions as well as offer a brief review of the parent handbook.
Athletes will also be able to pick up their packets and have their bike inspected. (The pool is not utilized during this time.)
5 PM - 6:30 PM
- Packet pick up open, stop by and have your bike inspected as well as pick up your bib, and shirt.
- Course review for youth athletes, course will be open and we will be available for course questions.
- Bike inspection. Bring your bike for a quick inspection to be sure bike fits, brakes work, helmet fits, and tires have air!
- Event staff available to answer questions.
- 6:30 PM: Packet pick up closes
NOTE: Bike inspection insures bikes have inflated tires, bike fits the athlete well, bike's handlebars have tips on both ends, and athlete's helmet fits properly. It's best to have bikes inspected during this time, however if necessary bike inspection can take place on race morning.

Parking
There will be NO parking at Broadlands Community Center, as the parking lot area is used as the transition parking lot.
There will be NO bike drop off at the Broadlands Community Center. Please park at one of the two locations listed below, and walk to transition.
Parking available in two locations.
- Hillside Elementary School (43000 Ellzey Dr. Ashburn) located just up the path from the transition lot at the Broadlands Community Center.
- Eagle Ridge Middle School (42901 Waxpool Rd. Ashburn, VA) located across the street from the transition lot. Tunnel access will allow for ease of crossing Waxpool.

This event does not offer refunds. However, there is an opportunity to purchase race insurance for that just in case situation.

Swim
Swimmers will line up in bib order by age group. Swim time for youth athletes' 25 meter distance, offered at time of registration, will assist us seeding athletes for the swim.
Swimmers will swim down and back in the same lane to complete the distance needed. The Broadlands Community Center pool is a 25 meter pool.

Transition Area
There are two transitions in a triathlon: swim > bike (Transition 1 or T1) and bike > run (Transition 2 or T2).
For this triathlon, T1 & T2 are within the same transition area located in the parking lot of Broadlands Community Center (pool) at 43008 Waxpool Rd. Ashburn, VA.
The transition area will be fenced off and have numbered areas for each athlete to set up their equipment (bike, helmet, shoes, towel, etc.) giving a space to transition/get ready for the next step within the event.
