What is the Lynchburg Turkey Trot presented by Scott Insurance?

The Lynchburg Turkey Trot is a community fun run and walk and all proceeds of this fundraising race support the programs and services of HumanKind. It is the largest 5K in the area drawing more than 3,500 participants each year.

The race was originally started in 1988 by Don Lucy who grew up at the Presbyterian Homes (now known as HumanKind) as a way to give back and help raise funds and awareness for individuals, children and families across Virginia.

Today, the Lynchburg Turkey Trot is a treasured community tradition. What a beautiful way to celebrate a holiday by helping more of our neighbors in need this Thanksgiving. Join the flock, shake your tailfeathers and help us celebrate!

Is my Lynchburg Turkey Trot registration Tax-deductible?

Because your registration fee covers the cost of your entry, shirt and bib – i.e. service and goods, the registration is not tax deductible.  If you make a donation over and above the cost of registration – that amount would be deductible as charitable contributions. Tax ID 54-0346118. To make a direct donation without registration, please donate here.

So it’s a “twist on tradition” but is there swag?
YES! Race registration includes a long-sleeve race shirt, race bib, finisher medal and some other turkey flare! Want even more cool stuff? Add some turkey merchandise to your registration and let your turkey flag fly. Every item purchased further supports the children and families in our community.

Are there awards for this race?

Awards will be given to participants at the in-person event held on Thanksgiving morning November 27 in Lynchburg. The in-person race will be officially timed. Virtual participants will not be eligible for timed race awards due to the variation of courses. However, EVERYONE who registers to participate will receive a 2025 commemorative finisher medal.  

Is there a group discount?

Yes! We are excited to provide the optional “Friends and Family” pack where you can receive a discount for groups of 4 - 5 individuals ($4 off each registration) or an even bigger discount for groups of 6 - 10 individuals ($6 off each registration). Discount is automatically applied at check out.  Please note that "Friends and Family" pricing is not “retroactive” to include registrations made previously. The discount will be applied to one transaction for your group.   

Will there be a price increase this year?

Registration prices will increase throughout the season. We encourage everyone to take advantage of our early bird rates to save and help us plan a smoother event experience for all. Here’s the 2025 pricing schedule:

August 4 – August 31: $35
September 1 – October 12: $40
October 13 – November 9: $45
November 10 – November 27: $55

What's the course for the in-person race on Thanksgiving Day?

Great question! We have called the course on Langhorne Road home now for six years! The start/finish line is right in front of EC Glass High School on Langhorne Road.

As much as we love our furry friends, pets are not allowed on event day for safety reasons. We appreciate your understanding![PT1] 

Will there be a packet pick-up this year?

Yes, we will be holding a packet pick up event on two different dates:

Friday, November 21 (12:00 - 6:00 pm) and Wednesday, November 26 (12:00 - 6:00 pm)
There will be NO race day pick up available.

Location: HumanKind Campus, 1903 HumanKind Way, Lynchburg, VA 24503. Entrance from VES Road ONLY, all other entrances are permanently closed.

Do I have to attend packet pick-up to get my race items?

Not at all, you can choose to have your items shipped directly to you. Please note shipping is $25 per address for up to 4 participants. Or you can have someone pick up on your behalf -- they must have your Race Bib Number to do so.

Can I pick up my packet and bib on Thursday, November 27th (RACE DAY)?

There is not a RACE DAY packet pickup. Your only opportunity to pick up your packet and bib# are Friday, November 21 and Wednesday, November 26 at the designated times for Packet Pick up.

When will my items ship?

Race packets will be shipped starting the week of 10/28/25. In order to guarantee receiving race items by the start of race week you must be registered for the race by 11/7/25. All shipping requests received after 11/7/25 will ship after the race during the week of 12/1/25.  .

Can I get a Refund?

Race entries are non-refundable and non-transferable. Proceeds from this race benefit the programs of HumanKind, which provide guidance and the tools to build a better life for those in need. We are on a mission to empower people to thrive. These programs serve thousands of people in Lynchburg and across Virginia each year! 

If I’m participating virtually, when do I need to submit my race results?

Your results can be submitted anytime between Sat. November 22 - Sun. November 30. 

Where and When will the results be posted?

Your race result is posted almost immediately upon finishing. Be sure to signup for both email and text notifications during registration to have your result sent to you. (Check back later for pictures with your results.)
All race results will also be posted on our website at www.humankind.org, our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/humankindva, and on RunSignUp at https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/Lynchburg/HumanKindTurkeyTrot. 

Do you need volunteers for anything?

YES – we will absolutely need volunteers this year! And volunteer groups are WELCOME!  Visit our Volunteer Page to explore available opportunities and sign up to be part of the fun.

Have no fear! All awards are available to pick up at Riverside Runners (2480 Rivermont Ave, Lynchburg, VA 24503) through Thursday, December 18!

The Lynchburg Turkey Trot is a Rain or shine event! 🦃☀️🌧️ Turkeys aren't afraid of a little weather, and we know you're not either. So bundle up, lace up, and let's prepare to trot. All prayers, good vibes, and positive weather thoughts are appreciated!

VIRTUAL RACE DAY:
Run or walk from anywhere on a date of your choice between November 22nd – November 30th 

STROLLERS / PETS
On our Lynchburg course in-person -- strollers are welcome! We ask that you leave your furry friends at home.
Please do NOT bring your pets to our in-person event.

For all virtual participants, strollers are of course allowed and BONUS -- you can participate with your favorite furry friend!

T-SHIRTS
Event T-shirts come in adult unisex sizing and youth sizing options. Shirts are guaranteed to those that register on or before November 13. Registrations received November 14 through race day will have shirts available on a first-come basis at packet pick-up.

FINISHER MEDALS
Finisher Medals will be given to all who register for the 2025 Lynchburg Turkey Trot.

There are several parking options for the Lynchburg Turkey Trot -- please make sure you know which parking lots will be CLOSED for the duration of the race and which ones will be open. Due to road closures, the parking lots that fall inside the course will not open until the police department reopens the roads at 9:30 AM.
