About Mile-a-Day Marathon Challenge: Run for your Heart

Build a marathon. Strengthen your heart. One mile at a time.

Complete a marathon one mile at a time in the Mile-a-Day Marathon Challenge: Run for your Heart, supporting the American Heart Association as part of the Women of Impact campaign.

Participants will move one mile per day for 25 days, then finish their full 26.2-mile marathon on National Walking Day, April 1, by completing the final 1.2 miles together.

This virtual challenge is open to all ages and abilities. Walk, run, or move your mile anywhere, anytime — and build your marathon while strengthening your heart.

What if completing a marathon was as simple as moving one mile a day?

Join the Mile-a-Day Heart Marathon Challenge, a virtual movement initiative supporting the American Heart Association as part of the Women of Impact campaign.

This isn’t a marathon you complete in one day. It’s a marathon you build — one mile at a time.

Participants will walk, run, or move one mile per day for 25 days, building toward the full marathon distance. Then, on National Walking Day — April 1, everyone will complete their journey together by finishing the final 1.2 miles, reaching the official marathon distance of 26.2 miles.

A marathon built through consistency, commitment, and heart.

Not sure how far a mile actually is?

It’s 1760 yards and it is also 5280 feet. That’s it!  It is also just 4 laps around a track!

Why are we so obsessed with the mile?

The mile is a distance we can all relate to.  We've run it in gym class, we've traveled for miles, we've had miles to go, we've been told it's less than a mile away, and the list could go on. The mile is a magical distance and most anybody can run, jog, walk, or trot a mile a day!

Nearly anyone can complete a mile. And when you do it day after day, those miles add up to something extraordinary.

You don’t need to be a runner. You just need to start.

Walk it. Run it. Stroll it. Move your heart.

 
National Walking Day Marathon Finish
The challenge culminates on April 1, National Walking Day, a nationwide initiative sponsored by the American Heart Association encouraging people to improve their health through movement.

On this final day, participants everywhere will complete their last 1.2 miles, officially finishing their marathon and celebrating what they’ve built together.

You didn’t just walk a mile.

You completed a marathon.
