Mile For Her

Teal Diva presents: Mile for Her — a virtual movement with meaning.

Teal Diva supports women affected by gynecologic cancer, focusing on emotional well-being, connection, and education. Through community events and outreach, we empower survivors, honor legacies, and raise awareness about symptoms and early detection.

A Mile for Her began in honor of our friend Amber Blackwood. While training for our annual 5K, Amber incorporated trampoline training and had worked her way up to a few miles. But just weeks before the event, she became sick again. In the month leading up to that race, we encouraged our community to walk a mile for Amber. When she passed, we carried that spirit forward — first by including a Mile for Her as part of our 5K, and now as its own stand-alone event. Amber’s strength and joy continue to inspire every step we take. And while this all began as a result of Amber, it has grown to be for anyone diagnosed with gynecologic cancer whether she is still with us or has passed on. 

Whether you bike, row, run, walk, paddle, or jump — do it for her. Do it for yourself. For the survivor in your life. For the one you lost. For your sister, your friend, your mother — the woman who fought gynecologic cancer with everything she had. You set the pace. You choose your activity. You move when and how it works for you. All we ask is that you commit to at least one mile — because every step, every mile, every moment you dedicate… it’s all for her. We’re logging 9,583 miles — one for every gynecologic cancer diagnosed each month in the U.S. Every mile honors a woman’s journey.

This September, join us in raising awareness for gynecologic cancers and funds for the Teal Diva Survivor Retreat, a transformative long weekend for 20 gynecologic cancer survivors. In a peaceful, awe-inspiring setting, these resilient women will connect with others who’ve walked similar paths, embrace the spirit of sisterhood, and find rest, reflection, and joy. The retreat offers encouragement and guidance for those navigating life after cancer — helping survivors answer the difficult question: "What's next?"

Here’s how this event works:
Register from your phone or computer and join the movement.
Choose your activity: walk, bike, paddle, hike, row, jump — whatever moves you a mile.
Choose your frequency: at least one mile a week, every day, or one meaningful mile you work up to for the month — your choice.
Log your miles on our website to help us reach our 9,583-mile goal.
Do it on your schedule.
Take photos, upload to the race website once you have logged your miles and share your journey on social media using #TealDivaM4H to raise awareness and show your support!

Teal Diva focuses on the emotional and mental health of those affected by gynecologic cancer. Through a range of programs including active treatment support, celebrating survivorship, and honoring legacies, we aim to provide strength through connection and empower individuals with vital knowledge about gynecologic cancers.

We are not specifically targeting the tumor. There are a lot of amazing organizations and people working on research. Our community outreach is designed to bring women together outside of the clinic as well as educate young women on the signs and symptoms of the disease. 2. What is A Mile for Her?
A Mile for Her is a virtual event hosted by Teal Diva to raise awareness for gynecologic cancers and funds for the Teal Diva Retreat. It began in honor of our friend Amber Blackwood, at the Teal Diva 5k, and now serves as a powerful way to move with purpose in memory, support, or celebration of someone affected by gynecologic cancer.

3. How do I participate?
Participation is easy!

4. Why is the significance with the goal of completing 9,583 miles for this challenge?
We’re logging 9,583 miles — one for every gynecologic cancer diagnosed each month in the U.S. Every mile honors a woman’s journey.

5. When does the event take place?
A Mile for Her runs throughout the month of September. September is the month dedicated to gynecologic and ovarian cancer awareness. 

6. Where do I find my Virtual Bib once I registered?
You should receive an email with your bib assignment. If you do not, click: FIND MY DIGITAL BIB. This will only show up for those who have completed the registration process. 

7. Where do I complete my miles?
Anywhere you want! That could be your neighborhood, a local park, a trail, a gym, a treadmill, a swimming pool, or a lake. It’s your mile, your way. You can participate on your own schedule, at your own pace.

8. How do I log my miles?

9. Can I create or join a team?
Absolutely. Rally your family, coworkers, or friends to create a team and move together for a cause. You can log miles and fundraise as a group, too! All we ask is that EACH INDIVIDUAL log their own miles. 

10. Can I host a group walk or local gathering?
Yes, and we love that! You can organize a small event in your neighborhood, local park, or even at a school track. We also offer sign packages you can order to help mark your route and make it feel more official. It’s a great way to build awareness and community. Follow this LINK for more details.  You can add as you are registering or you can add from the Store later. 

11.  Can I fundraise as part of my participation?
Yes! When you register, you’ll have the option to set up an individual fundraising page. Your donation directly supports the Teal Diva Survivor Retreat, a transformative long weekend for 20 gynecologic cancer survivors. In a peaceful, awe-inspiring setting, these resilient women will connect with others who’ve walked similar paths, embrace the spirit of sisterhood, and find rest, reflection, and joy. 12. Is there a commemorative t-shirt?
Yes! You can add a Mile for Her t-shirt during registration for an additional cost. In fact, you can order as many as you like. And if you decide later you want to add a shirt, you can simply add from the Mile for Her Store. 

• Make sure you enter your shipping address correctly!!!
• Order by August 21 to receive your shirt before September 6.
• Registrations/Orders from Aug 22-Sept 30 will ship mid October.
• There will be no mailings throughout September

Please note: we use a 3rd party vendor to print and ship the shirts. All shirts and items purchased from the store will be mailed.

13. Is there opportunity for sponsorship? 
Yes! Each individual or team is welcome to seek sponsorship — it’s your responsibility to reach out and secure those supporters. Companies can sponsor a team, an individual, or dedicate dollars to miles. You’re also welcome to create your own team t-shirts or swag, and businesses can sponsor those items as well. Checks can be made out to Teal Diva. It’s a great way to get creative, build awareness, and raise support!

14. What if I miss a day or don’t meet my mile goal?
That’s okay. Every step counts, and your participation matters — whether it’s one mile or many. The heart of this event is about showing up for the cause and the people it honors.

15. Will there be awards?
YES! Who doesn't love a little friendly and honest competition. 

• Largest Social Team (must have at least 10 team members to qualify)
• Social Team with the most states represented - participants registered for the virtual event from different states
• Largest Individual Fundraiser
• Largest Team Fundraiser
• Individual with the most miles logged and completed (honor system)
• Social Team with the most overall miles logged and completed (honor system)
• Best Dressed Team (make sure to upload your photos)

Awareness is key — and advocacy can save lives. Since some gynecologic cancers, like ovarian, have no reliable early detection test, it's crucial to know the symptoms and speak up. Whether it’s a stroll through your neighborhood, a walk at your favorite local park, or a group loop around a school track — gathering your friends, family, or community for a shared mile is a powerful way to make an impact. Each individual or team is welcome to seek sponsorship. Because it is more specific to an individual/team, it’s your responsibility to reach out and secure those supporters. Companies can sponsor a team, an individual, or dedicate dollars to miles. It’s a great way to get creative, build awareness, and raise support!. For companies seeking a tax-deductible donation, checks can be made out to Teal Diva. And if you’d like help crafting an ask letter, we’re here to support you.

Post your Results:  If your team completes a 5K, make sure each member logs their miles individually so they count toward our monthly goal of 9,583 miles — one for every woman expected to be diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer this month. While we’re only asking each person to complete at least one mile throughout the month, we welcome and encourage participants to log as many miles as they feel comfortable completing.

Teal Diva is known for our inspiring and heartfelt course signs — and now, you can bring that same energy to your own Mile for Her event. Need help marking your route? We’ve got you! Order a Mile for Her event sign package to make your course feel official, beautiful, and full of purpose.

The sign package is $150 and includes:

• 5 corrugated Teal Diva branded signs (signs are not sold individually)

• the signs feature graphics on both the front and back — one side displays the event branding (shown in the last image below), and the other side showcases one of the various designs pictured below. 

• metal stakes for each sign

• shipping included
