About Philmont Trail Race
The Philmont Trail Race supports Philmont Scout Ranch and Scouting America in providing its mission to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oat and Law. Proceeds from the race benefit Philmont Scout Ranch.
Philmont Scout Ranch is a 140,000 acre high adventure camp owned and operated by Scouting America with over 300 miles of trails. Philmont’s main program is challenging and educating scouts ages 13 to 21 years of age through 12, 9, and 7 day backpacking treks. Crews of 8-12 individuals additionally have the opportunity to participate in programs such as climbing, shooting, biking, living history, fishing and much more. 50 Mile Trail Guide
This 50 Mile race will take you through almost the entirety of Philmont's south country. You will experience all that the Rockies of northeastern New Mexico have to offer. The course begins at the Zastrow Trailhead, following the Rayado River west along the boundary line to Apache Springs before heading north to the summit of Mt. Phillips, then east to Hunting Lodge, south through Clark's Fork to Sheafers Pass, then down Tooth Ridge. Details for the course can be downloaded in the PDF file 50 Mile Trail Guide below.
REQUIRED to have run a trail marathon or equivalent effort 2 years prior of the start of the race, it will be asked at registration to share proof of race results or GPS date of similar efforts. All runners of the 50 mile race must carry with them a headlamp, water carrying capacity, and a rain shell with them at all times on the course.

Heavy Half Trail Guide
This 18 mile race will highlight some of Philmont's most famous sights, including the Tooth of Time. You will get to experience Philmont's backcountry and be back in time to enjoy Base Camp. Details for the course can be downloaded in the PDF file Heavy Half Trail Guide below.
Strong Recommendation to be comfortable running Half Marathons before running this race. All runners of the heavy half race must carry with them water carrying capacity, and a rain shell with them at all times on the course.

Marathon Trail Guide
Experience this classic distance as you traverse mountains, cross streams, and run through alpine meadows. Treat yourself to the Sangre de Cristo mountains. This course begins at the Zastrow Trailhead, heading west before turning north at Abreu to go up and over Urraca Mesa, to Crater Lake, Miners Park, finishing up following Tooth Ridge into Base Camp. Tooth Ridge Sprint Trail Guide
The Philmont Trail Race shortest race at 8 miles, this event will take you to the famous Tooth of Time Ridge. Starting at Lovers Leap Trailhead up the rocky and step Stockade trail then down Tooth Ridge to finish in Base Camp.
