About Pointe Coupee Special Needs Field Day
The Pointe Coupee Parish School Athletic Department is excited to announce that the inaugural Pointe Coupee Special Needs Field Day will be held on Thursday, March 19 at the Patrick Green Track & Field Stadium. Events are scheduled by grade group: Head Start through 6th grade will participate from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and 7th through 12th grade will participate from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
This event is open to students with special needs who are enrolled in the Pointe Coupee Parish Public School System, from Head Start through 12th grade. If you are unsure whether your child is eligible to participate, please contact your child’s special-needs teacher for confirmation.
Participation is free for all eligible students. Every participant will receive a participation ribbon, and lunch will be provided for athletes and attendees.
Athletes can expect a variety of competitive and recreational activities, including track events such as the 50 m and 100 m runs, skill events like tennis ball throw, noodle javelin throw, field goal kicking, and a basketball free-throw contest, plus additional activity stations such as tic-tac-toe, bubble stations, and more.
Each student will be assigned an athlete buddy to support them during events. The athlete buddy may be the student’s legal guardian or a teacher from the school system. During registration, parents may choose whether they would like to assist their child themselves or have their child assigned an athlete buddy.
Students must be present at their school on the day of the event; bus transportation will be provided to and from the Patrick Green Track & Field Stadium, and participating students will return to their local school after the event. Parents are not permitted to drop off students directly at the event site, but they are welcome to attend, watch, and assist their child if they selected that option during registration.
