Portland Thanksgiving Day 4 miler

Please join us for a Southern Maine running tradition, the 45th Annual Portland Thanksgiving Day 4-Miler & Kids K. The 2 loop, certified 4 Miler course winds through Portland's Historic Old Port and Downtown Districts. The Kid's K (.62 miles) starts at Monument Sq, runs to the Court House and back to finish in front of City Hall.

This is an all volunteer effort. Proceeds to benefit Partners for World Health, Portland Trails, the St. Patrick’s Secondary School in Iten, Kenya and various area non - profits.

Our food drive, now in it's 41st year, will benefit Project Feed, an area emergency food pantry. Please consider bringing non-perishable items to donate on race day!

This year, we proudly honor the memory of George Towle, who served as Event Director since the race’s inception. We lost our dear friend George in April of 2026, but his impact on this event and the community will never be forgotten.

What began more than 44 years ago as a small community event between Portland and Deering High Schools — held after the Thanksgiving football game to raise money for both girls’ track teams, with race entries costing just $2 in advance — has grown into a cherished Thanksgiving tradition.

George often recalled that the very first race drew only about 30 participants. In 2025, nearly 1,700 runners and walkers took part, a true testament to the dedication, passion, and community spirit he poured into the event over the decades.

Today, the Thanksgiving Day 4-Miler continues to bring the community together as both a food drive and fundraiser, carrying on the spirit, generosity, and tradition that George helped build from the very beginning.

Free Parking for Runners & Spectators: Monument Square Parking Garage. Look for signs to One City Center Parking Garage off Congress St. Please do not park on surrounding streets!!!

Do you know someone who would like to volunteer on race day? We are always looking for help! Family and friends can cheer you on while contributing to a great cause! Time commitment will be 7:30AM - 10:30AM. All volunteers will receive a free Portland Thanksgiving Day 4-Miler T-shirt! They can register to volunteer on the same form used for runner registration.

All runners 21 and over are invited to the Shipyard (shipyard.com)Tap Room, 86 Newbury Street , Portland for a complimentary beer after the race. Please bring your race number!

Awards: All Kid's K runners will receive a ceremonial medal at the finish line.
