About Race for Rescue
The Race for Rescue, Oahu Search and Rescue’s primary fund raising event, is a 5K run that has been held each year, in October. For 2026, the course will be held at Kaiwi Mauka, at the south eastern tip of Oahu. Located just outside of Hawaii Kai, this stunning race course, winds it's way up into the valley gaining elevation above the golf course, before looping back down hill to the start/finish line.
OSAR relies on this event to fund our organization for the next year, covering costs like insurance, technical rescue gear, and educational supplies. It's the support of our community that allows us to support our community!
This year there will be two different events:
- The RACE for RESCUE 5K will be held on October 31st in Hawaii Kai . Enjoy the amazing scenery while you run/walk a 5K out and back. Like last year, this course is not stroller friendly.
- The VIRTUAL 5K can be run any time during the race window (October 1st - October 31st), anywhere in the world. You simply run/walk 5k at the location and time of your choosing, and then upload your time to the race website.
Virtual Run
Virtual Run? What's that?
A virtual run is just like a regular run, but instead of running your race at a specific time and place, you can run the distance wherever during the race window. You then upload the time and distance ran and you're all set!
How it works
Sign up for the race through our partner RunSignup. We'll get your mailing address along with your name and contact information. Don't worry that information is kept secure and only made available to Oahu Search and Rescue.
Any time between October 1st and October 31st, pick a spot and run/walk/jog/skip a 5K (3.1 miles). Record your time, and then upload it to the RunSignup portal per the instructions you received in a the sign up email.
That's it!
Tshirt Mailings
Everybody who signs up before September 15th will get an awesome race Tshirt. However, because you won't be able to pick it up in person at the race, we will be mailing them out to you. Your shirt will ship after NOVEMBER 1st.
Tag us on Intagram
Tag @oahusar and #raceforrescue2024 on an Intagram post of your run, and you'll be entered into our raffle drawing for some great prizes, after the completion of the race window. Did we mention this is also a costume contest? Best costume also wins a prize.
In Person Run
The in person Race for Rescue will kick off at 8:30am on Saturday, October 26th. The run/walk a scenic 5K loop at the world famous OSAR Training Grounds located in Hawaii Kai.
