Rescue Run

Welcome back to Norris-Penrose Events Center / Bear Creek Park!

Jan 1, 1979, the Rescue Run Start/Finish was at Norris-Penrose Events Center.  In 1995, we moved the Rescue Run to Palmer Park.  In 2021, due to the Covid Pandemic we held a Virtual Rescue Run.  For the 2022 event, we took the course back to its roots at Norris-Penrose. But rather than run on the streets as we did in the 80's and 90's, we run on the trails of Bear Creek Park East.

• LOCATION: Start/Finish Norris-Penrose Events Center 1045 Lower Gold Camp Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80905
• START TIME: 5K and 10K start together at 10:00 am.  If you prefer a more spread out start, or need a few extra minutes, the start will be available for approximately 10 minutes after the group starts.  Please cross starting line timing mats by 10:10 am
• REGISTRATION: No race day registration. Online registration ends Dec 31, 6:00 pm Mountain Time.
• TRAIL CONDITIONS: Please expect ice in places on trails, and especially wooden bridges. There are shaded areas down near the creek which will hold ice from any recent snow.  Wearing shoe traction is at your discretion
• PARKING: There are two large lots with plenty of parking available.  Please allow time to enter the center and get parked.  The southern lot, closest to start/finish closes at 9:20 to allow kids races in the lot.  At that time all traffic is directed to the northern lot.
• POTTIES: We add more every year, but there is always a line.  Please allow time.  If you are in line and the race starts, don't panic, the starting mat will still be active.

5K and 10K start together at 10:00 am January 1.

Nov 1 - Nov 30 - $30 Entry Fee / $15 optional shirt (Long Sleeve, unisex sizing xs - xxl)

Dec 1 - Dec 31 - $40 Entry Fee / $15 optional Shirt (Long Sleeve, unisex sizing xs - xxl)

NOTE - You must be pre-registered by Dec 31 at 6:00 PM Mountain Time. There is NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION

Long sleeve tech shirt add-on is optional during signup.  Sizes are unisex, XS - XXL.  Please sign up early, in November, to guarantee shirt availability.  Shirts and bibs will be available for pickup in December. You will be notified via email when your shirt/bib is ready for pickup at the running store, if you selected store pickup.  This year our store partners, Colorado Running Company and Runners Roost, are giving a 10% discount on full-price purchases made when you pick up your bib/shirt.

Free: Kids runs starting at 9:30, three age-appropriate distances

Switching Distance: Switching is allowed at no charge prior to the race.  It is preferable that you do so online within runsignup.com before Dec 31.  If you decide to switch at the start of the race, please let a timing official know prior to the race.  Not doing so slows down awards and results.  And it might be cold out there!

Dogs: Pets are not allowed on the course per PPRR/RRCA rules.  This is especially important on our 10K course as a portion of this course is on private property with the agreement from the landowner that we will not allow dogs.  In order to secure the future use of the property, if you attempt to run the 10K with a dog, you will be stopped during the race.

Trail Etiquette: No litter / No cutting corners / No off-trail travel. Any activities of this nature may result in disqualification.  Please understand our stance on this in order to continue conducting this race on a mixture of private and public lands.
