Ringer Run 5K - 10th Annual !!!

The 10th Annual Ringer Run to benefit suicide prevention and mental health awareness is ON for Thursday June 11, 2025 @ 7:00 pm. 

If you've run with us before, you know what a fun, family friendly event we try to make it, and you also know it’s a challenging course, which is why we invite you to The Stables across the street for some “carb recovery…” on us. 

If you've never run with us, here's how we try to make it fun: lots of giveaways and random prizes, a water station, discount for High School / Collegiate Track and XC runners, finisher medals, a soft shirt, a (mostly closed paved path) course with a covered bridge, wetlands, a church, a tunnel, the local police watching your back, race village with sponsors and raffles and face painting and … a cool after party with a free drink, and most of all a meaningful cause.

As 100% of our proceeds are donated, we have already donated over $100,000 to local mental health awareness and suicide prevention programs such as A Haven as well as the Joseph J. Ringhoffer Memorial Fund, which was created in memory of a local fallen friend, and supports the Penn State Student Affairs Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS).

Every effort will be made to hold the event as scheduled, but safety is our primary concern.  We are runners, and we understand the frustration of showing up to a race and it being cancelled, but if a race is cancelled, it will be done by the race director onsite, and within the 1/2 hour before the start time.  We cannot post weather related cancellations online the day of the race due to how quickly the weather can change.

Although weather severe enough to cancel a race is rare - e.g. rain, flooding, lightning, wind, hail, tornadoes, extreme temperatures, snow, blizzards, locusts, etc. - it does occasionally happen.  The primary factors will be the road conditions along the course and severe weather during the event.  Here are a few specific guidelines: 

Rain: It would take a biblical event (think Noah) to cancel due to rain.  See "Flooding."

Flooding: If flooding could cause unsafe course conditions, the race may be re-routed or cancelled. 

Temperature:  If temperature at the start of the event is above 90 degrees, a decision to delay or cancel the race may be made.

LIGHTNING
Before Event: In the event of lightning in the area, the event will be delayed for at least 30 minutes but not to exceed 60 minutes after the last lightning strike. If lightning delays the start beyond one hour after the start time, the event will be canceled. At any point before the event start, participants are encouraged to seek shelter in their vehicles.

During Event: If lightning occurs during the event the Race Director will make the call to terminate the event. A text message will be sent to all course marshals and course marshals will make a best effort attempt to alert all runners in the area of their course marshal's position. At that point the event is over and all participants will continue at their own risk.
