About Running of the Leprechauns

Do you like to run (or walk)? Do you love to drink beer? Do you think St Patrick's Day should be a week-long national holiday?

Us too. And we have the perfect event for you!

The Running of the Leprechauns starts at Oden Brewing in Greensboro, NC and tours the UNCG campus before ending back at Oden Brewing for the soon-to-be famous Saturday before St. Paddy's Leprechaun celebration. This is a chip-timed event and a part of The Race Series. All finishers receive series points for participation!


Not feeling the full 5K? Check out the "Leprechaun Stroll".  You will participate in an untimed walk through parts of the course (less than 1 mile) and still get the race swag bag, race shirt (while supplies are available), and one delicious brew. 

NEW in 2026, bring in the kiddos out for the Leprechaun Kids Dash! This short course is untimed and design for youth 8 and under.

Race giveaways for all participants include a commemorative short-sleeved blend shirt (while supplies last), a special finisher’s gift, AND a craft beer from Oden Brewing (21+ up). Awards ceremony will take place at Oden! By the way, we are family/stroller & pet friendly too!

You can also be a part of the fun without the run and volunteer or just come spectate! All are welcome at this event.

Think you've got what it takes to be the best dressed Leprechaun?

All are invited to participate. Top leprechaun, as decided by the judges, will receive $100 gift card to Oden Brewing! Come dressed to impress!


Best dressed signups are 8:30 AM-10:30 AM race day ONLY with judging and awards immediately following the awards ceremony.

Can I register on race day?

You can register race day if we don't sell out! Visit registration/ packet pickup table prior to race start.

 

What can expect on the course?

The run starts at Oden Brewing and tours the UNCG campus before ending back at Oden Brewing for the soon to be famous Saturday before St. Paddy's Leprechaun celebration. This is a chip timed event and a part of The Race Series. All finishers receive series points for participation.

 

What do I get with my registration?

Can I walk the event?

We love our walkers. We ask walkers to be aware that course time limits are race specific. We that you maintain a minimum of 19 min./mile pace (course closes at 11am). If you fall below this pace, we can unfortunately no longer guarantee course support—which is paramount for your safety. Aid stations, medical support, portable toilets, and road closures will start to become unavailable to participants. The local police and race organizers will ask you to reroute to a shorter version of the course or move up onto the sidewalk where you will be required to obey regular traffic laws.

 

Can I check in my gear/ personal belongings?

Yes, gear check will be available inside the host site.

 

Where are the aid stations?

Race participants will receive hydration and/or nutrition at the following course locations:

Spring Garden St. & College Ave. (Mile 1.5)
 

 

Are strollers allowed?

Running baby strollers are allowed but must have a minimum of 6″ wheels.

 

What is your race day cancellation policy?

In the event the race should be canceled for reasons beyond the control of the Race Director or Race Committee (inclement weather or unsafe weather conditions; local, state or national emergency), refunds will not be made, but race packets, including race shirts, will be available at a location to be determined. The race has a NO WORRIES race registration guarantee so you can feel confident that you will NEVER lose the value of your race registration. You can also choose to add on a no questions asked refund to your race registration for a small fee. Visit our website to review our "Race Protection Policy" tab for more details.

 

Can I run with my pet or use inline skates?

Yes!  Bring your pet to enjoy race day with you, but please be responsible and clean up after your furry friend! We do not allow, bicycles, inline skates or any means of transportation other than running, walking or wheelchairs.  Race Director reserves the right to reject any entry or to remove any participant from the race course without explanation.

  • To make race day as smooth as possible for all runners, staff, and volunteers, we are requesting runners to pick up packets (race number, shirt, swag) before race day at one of our convenient location(s) listed above. Runners can pick up multiple packets for friends and family. 

  • We do understand some will not be able to make this and we ask that you reach out to us. Please complete this form if you are unable to pick up your packet before race day. Special arrangements are required for race day packet pickup.

 

Parking

All Parking listed is FREE.

First come parking at the lot next to Oden - enter via Gate City Blvd only and follow parking attendants. 
(Use Oden's or  826 W Gate City Blvd for GPS)


Overflow parking at the Weatherspoon. 
1005 Spring Garden Street - lot is located off of Tate Street.
Short walk to Oden traveling South on Tate Street (away from Spring Garden).


Road closures begin promptly at 9AM so plan to arrive and park prior to 9AM to avoid any delays.

Race Protection Policy

 

At Junction 311, we love our community of runners and walkers and we value creating memorable race experiences for all.  Part of that experience is giving you peace of mind when you register, because we understand that life can throw you unexpected curve balls. We are proud to offer a few options if for some reason you are not able to participate in the event after registering.

Our Race Protection Policy allows you to choose from the following:

 

1.You may purchase RegShield, a registration protection option for event participants who can opt-in to purchase with one click during checkout. Participants will be reimbursed the cost of their registration price, should they be unable to attend their event due to several covered reasons including accident, illness and family emergency. You must purchase during registration and there is not an option to add this option after payment confirmation. You will get an email directly from RegShield regarding filing any claims.

 

2. You may defer your registration to participate with us in the same race the following year for a $10 change fee for any reason up to 72 hours prior to race day.  Click “manage registration” in your RunSignUp profile to choose this option or visit this link for step by step directions. Deferrals are valid ONE YEAR from original registration and only used once. NO EXCEPTIONS.

3. You may transfer your race registration to another individual. Click “manage registration” in your RunSignUp profile to choose this option or visit this link for step-by-step instructions.

4. You may transfer your registration to another race within the Junction 311 portfolio of events.  When transferring to a different race, the registrant will be credited for their original amount minus the transfer processing fee.  This credit can be used to cover the event cost in the new event. Teams

We all know everything is better with friends, most especially when running and celebrating! And triple that sentiment come race day!

Teams can be comprised of family, friends, co-workers, work out buddies...heck, anyone can join a team.

It is easy to create or join or a team when you register.

  • This race is a RACE SERIES TEAM COMPETITION scoring event! All the more reason to rally friends and family to join your team. For details scroll to the Team Competition Rules, at the bottom of the Rules Page, linked HERE
  • All teams will receive recognition during the awards.
  • SPECIAL TEAM AWARD goes to the largest team (team standings close 7 days pre-race!)
  • Teams created on or before January 31 are permitted reserved race entries after selling out. We sell out EVERY year! So, if you've got that buddy that waits to the last minute, yeah, they will thank you when you let them know they can still get in if they join your team!).
  • The deadline to create or join a team to be a part of the largest team award ends at noon the day prior to the first packet pick up.
     

Teams of 10 or more

  • Get the packet pick up VIP Treatment! The entire team will have their runner bags pre-packed with shirts and race bibs so one team member can pick up the entire team's bags. 
  • Get a reserved space to set up on race day for the block party! Your reserved space includes early load in for tents and gear and all the fun you want to bring (vehicle access baby!)
  • Professional, team race photo op at the start line.
  • *Deadline is one-week prior race day to qualify for VIP packet pick up and reserved space.
