Running of the Ox 5K, 2 Mile & 1 Mile

As part of the West Jefferson annual Ox Roast, we are again holding the community 5K, 2 Mile and a 1 Mile Run/walk. All three runs will start and finish at the West Jefferson High School. The course is flat and fast, using paved roads and participants will run by Garrette Park where the Ox Roast is held. T-shirts will be provided for each registrant. 

Proceeds of the race will support the community and the work of the West Jefferson Youth Athletic Association (WJYAA).The mission of the WJYAA is to teach boys and girls in a fun and competitive atmosphere that encourages skill development, sportsmanship, camaraderie and learning how to win and lose with the team. The goals include developing a passion for sports and to “...compete, learn something about themselves and grow as athletes and people. Learn the skills of each sport and fundamentals. Have fun!”

Reduced entry fees for children ages 8 and under ($8.00) and students 9-17 ($20.00)

Packet pick-up will open at 7:00AM on race day near the Start/Finish line. Please arrive early to avoid any last minute rush to get your bib number and prepare for the race. Packet pick-up will be located in the northeast corner of the high school parking lot. There will be race day registration at the same location.

The 5K course starts and finishes in the West Jefferson High School parking lot. This is a flat and fast course along W. Jefferson Kiousville Road, onto Lilly Chapel Road and Frey Ave. The course passes Garrette Park where the Ox Roast is held.

All participants will receive an event t-shirt. However, shirt sizes can not be guaranteed if registering after Saturday, August 8, 2026.

Awards will be given to the top 2 male and female Overall Finishers for the 5K, 2 Mile and 1 Mile. Also, the top finishers in the following Age Groups will be recognized:

• 14 and under
• 15-19
• 20-29
• 30-39
• 40-49
• 50-59
• 60-69
• 70 and up
