Where is the Race?
Both the full and half marathon start and finish at the Madison Barracks/Polo Fields in Sackets Harbor, NY. Click here for the Parking and Directions page.

Is the course hilly? flat? fast? scenic?
We've worked hard at designing a great course and hope every runner enjoys it. It's an out-and-back route with rolling hills and a gentle elevation gain as the course gets further from the lake, then heads back down toward the finish. Perfect opportunity for a negative split! The half and full marathons share the first 13.1 miles. See the Course Info page for more details.

How many runners are expected?
1000+ runners. Last year we had 661 finishers from 36 different states and provinces.

Is the course certified?
Yes, both the half and full marathons are USATF certified courses. Click here for more info and the certification maps.

Who is timing the race?
Leone Timing & Results Services...they have spent the last two decades earning the reputation of one of the finest timing and results groups in the United States.

Why did my GPS show that I ran shorter/further that 26.2/13.1?
The race courses were measured as per USATF rules along the SPR—the Shortest Possible Route that a runner can possibly run. Most runners don’t actually run the SPR, so the distance recorded by their GPS device will usually be longer than the certified length of the course. Also, GPS units must have a clear view of at least three satellites to get a reading, and the more they can acquire, the more accurate they are. However, trees, buildings, and even a runner’s body can interrupt the signal, making it less accurate at any time. Click here for a statement by the USATF

Can I order Sackets Harbor Marathon & Half Marathon gear/merchandise?
Yes, we have items available in the store.

What is the deadline for registration?
You can register right up until race time (thanks to Leone Timing). But don't wait that long, Sign Up now!

Can I sign up for the race on race day?
Yes, if you decide to join the race last minute, Leone Timing can accommodate you.

Will there be pace groups?
We don't anticipate having pace groups this year.

When and where is Packet pickup?
Click here for Packet Pickup Info.

What is the schedule of events on race day?

Can someone else pick up my packet?

Rules Of Competition

The Sackets Harbor Marathon and Half Marathon are directed by Sackets Harbor Race Management LLC ("SHRM") under the rules and regulations of USA Track & Field (“USATF”).

Safety

Event Officials: All participants must follow the instructions of event officials, which includes SHRM staff and/or volunteers. Participants must retire at once from the race if ordered to do so by event officials, medical staff, or any governmental authority, including firefighters and police officers.

Sportsmanship: Any participant engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct, offensive behavior, or the use of offensive language towards event officials, SHRM staff, and/or volunteers may face disqualification. Unsportsmanlike conduct includes, but is not limited to, providing false or misleading information on the event application or any other behavior deemed unethical, unfair, abusive, offensive, harassing, disrespectful, harmful, or illegal by SHRM.

Participant Entry and Race Number (Bib)

Event Application: All participants must provide accurate information, including age, gender, and emergency contact information, when completing the event application.

Race Number/Bib: Your official participant bib, which displays your race number, must be fully visible at all times and worn on the FRONT of your torso on your outermost garment. The timing device is attached to the back of your bib. To ensure an accurate time, do not fold or wrinkle the bib or cover it with a jacket, runner belt, water bottle, or any other item. Running without a properly attached bib may result in no recorded finish time, exclusion from the results, and/or no credit for completing the race. In case of bib loss, report it immediately to an event official after the race for verification and possible race credit.

No Transfer Permitted: Race numbers and official participant bibs are assigned by SHRM to each specific participant and may not be transferred, reproduced, replicated, or modified under any circumstance unless through the proper procedures via the race website. Any attempt to give, sell, receive, purchase, modify, make copies, or participate with an unofficial race number or bib is strictly prohibited and may result in penalties, including disqualification and suspension from subsequent SHRM events.

The Start

Start Corrals: Participants are responsible for starting in appropriate corrals based on their self-predicted pace. Runners may move back to a slower corral but may not move forward to a faster corral. Please start in appropriate corral to make the race start smooth for all participants.

Race Start: The race will be started by an air horn unless otherwise noted. All participants must be behind the starting line at the start of the race and must follow the instructions of the race starter.

Timing

Official Times: Your official (net) finish time is recorded by the timing system from when you cross the starting line to when you cross the finish line. This time determines the order of finish and age-group award winners—except the top 3 finisher awards, which are determined by gun time (the time from the starting horn until the runner crosses the finish line).

The Course

Course Marking: The Sackets Harbor Marathon and Half Marathon are USATF-certified courses. Participants must stay within course boundaries at all times. The race course is defined as the roadway between its edges and curbs. The course is marked by yellow "Turn Here" arrows and/or traffic cones. Participants should run to the LEFT as the course is out-and-back and there will be two-way runner traffic much of the course. Participants must recognize and understand event signage and symbols relating to the course, directions, and facilities, and must follow the instructions of course marshals and event officials. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.

Course Completion: Participants who intentionally shorten the route of the race (“course-cutting”) will be disqualified. If you must leave the course, rejoin it only at the point at which you exited. No participant, after leaving the course, will be allowed to rejoin the race either for the purpose of gaining a place or to pace or assist another competitor. Note: participants in the Full Marathon that turn at the Half Marathon turnaround will be disqualified and will not be considered Half Marathon finishers.

Assistance: Unofficial pacers (on foot or bicycle) or other unregistered participants are not permitted on the course, nor are they permitted to provide assistance. A participant who receives assistance during an event from anyone other than official medical personnel may be disqualified.

Time Limit: In the interest of safety, and to allow streets and park drives to reopen as scheduled, race courses will remain open to all participants until 1:00 PM. Participants who are not able to complete the course prior to closing time should be aware that fluid stations and other race amenities may not be available. Follow instructions of event officials, move to the side, or board the sweep vehicle. Participants on the sweep vehicle may not cross the finish line.

The Finish

Late participants are not guaranteed to be timed and recorded as official finishers; however, they can contact our race scoring team to request credit for the race.

Prohibited Items

Animals, pets, and strollers are prohibited from all SHRM events.

Violation of Rules of Competition

All violations of the Rules of Competition will be referred to the SHRM Rules Committee, who will review the infraction and determine a resolution taking into consideration all relevant facts and circumstances

Penalties

The following penalties are intended to serve as guidelines only. The Rules Committee reserves the right to consider all facts and circumstances, including repeat offenses, and apply any penalties it deems as appropriate in its sole discretion.

Failure to cross all official timing checkpoints/course cutting: May result in disqualification from official results, suspension from subsequent SHRM events for up to one year, or suspension from the following year’s event.

Transfer of race number: Any person found to have reproduced, replicated, modified, transferred, bought or sold a race number or bib (or attempted any of the foregoing actions) for an SHRM event, permits any other individual to wear the race number or bib assigned to them, or wears a race number or bib not assigned to them by SHRM , will be disqualified and suspended from subsequent SHRM events for up to one year or suspended from the following year’s event.

Unauthorized Assistance: Any registered participant who receives unauthorized assistance may be disqualified. This includes any registered participant who permits an unregistered runner to run with them for any part of the event including through the finish line.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Any person who conducts themselves in an unsportsmanlike manner before, during or after a SHRM event may be disqualified or prohibited from participating in future SHRM events.

Instructions of Event Official: Any registered participant who refuses to follow the instructions of an event official may be disqualified.

Public Urination/Defecation: Any registered participant who urinates and/or defecates in public will be disqualified.

Other Violations: In addition to the violations highlighted above, the Rules Committee may assess penalties for any other violations not specified in these Rules of Competition based on all relevant facts and circumstances.

Individuals disqualified from a race will be removed from the race results and may be barred from future SHRM events. SHRM reserves the right to reject any entry and to disqualify and bar any individual from any SHRM event. This rejection/disqualification may be based on, but is not limited to, the violation of the aforementioned rules.

The Race Directors reserve the right to disqualify any individual who does not comply with these rules.
