Steel Valley Strides

Run historic 8th Avenue and join the post-race party with Golden Age Beer and Millie's Homemade Ice Cream in Homestead!  Steel Valley Strides is proudly presented by First National Bank with Steel Valley Accelerator and GCXC Race Timing and Management. 

With options for a flat, fast 5k (no, really this time!) or the untimed family 1 mile, this race has something for everyone. Stick around after for age group awards for the 5k  and free ice cream for participants!

START TIME: 8:30am

You probably know Homestead primarily from history class, but in fact, Homestead’s place in the Industrial Revolution and later labor movements are so important that most of the downtown buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Keep an eye out for the Bost Building, the Carnegie of Homestead, and the storefronts that made up the shopping and social capital of the steel valley in the early 20th century.

Steel mill and factory closures in the 1970s weren't kind to the area, but in recent years, new businesses and development are bringing Homestead, West Homestead, and Munhall back to vibrancy.  After the race, stick around for the post-race party under the Homestead Grays Bridge and soak in all the excitement of a revitalizing neighborhood!

Runners will line up on 7th Ave at McClure St behind Golden Age Beer, and take a tour towards West Homestead and then out and back along historic 8th Avenue. Be sure to look uphill at the water stop (approx. mile 1.5) to catch a glimpse of the stunning Carnegie of Homestead.

We at GCXC love dogs and many of our staff have them.  They are a wonderful addition to any family.   However, for safety and insurance reasons, we do not allow them at our events.  Please come to our races and have a blast with your family, friends and fellow runners but we kindly ask you to leave your dogs at home.  

SERVICE ANIMALS:  If you will be accompanied by a service animal, please contact the race director before the event so that we may make the appropriate accommodations for you.

GCXC allows strollers at races where it is safe to do so.   If there is a race where we can not, we will specifically list that on the event website.   

However, we ask that anyone with a stroller start in the rear of the event, or if you are competitive with your stroller, start on the left or right of the field and not in the middle.  This will allow for the safety and comfort of all participants at the event.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Race Day:

7:15am - 8:20am

**PLEASE NOTE: Road Closures around 7th and 8th Avenue will begin at 7:45am**

Lot parking is available in several lots along 7th, but access to 7th will be limited from 7:45 until the race end. 

Street Parking on 9th and along McClure is easiest in/out of the area - you'll just walk down and across 8th to the start. 

The only thing better than running historic 8th Avenue in Homestead is running it with friends & family!  Invite others to join you and earn cash back on your registration.
