About Summer Trail Fest Ultra 50 Mile, 50K, Half Marathon, & 5 Miler

Summer Trail Fest Ultra 50 Mile, 50K, Half Marathon, and 5 Mile – June 13, 2026

Summer Trail Fest Ultra (STFU) is back for its fifth year on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg, Michigan. This summer trail race is the perfect mix of beginner-friendly and PR-worthy, with smooth, well-marked singletrack and generous cutoffs that make it accessible for both new and experienced trail runners. Whether you’re ready for your first ultra marathon, looking to nail a faster half marathon, or want to test yourself on the 5 mile trail race, STFU delivers a one-of-a-kind Michigan trail running experience.

The course features about 90% well-groomed trails with minimal technical terrain, making it an ideal choice for anyone stepping up to longer trail distances. With 21:43/mile cutoffs for the 50K and 15:18/mile cutoffs for the 50 Mile, you’ll have plenty of time to finish strong. Aid stations are well-stocked with water, electrolytes, gels, and real food options, so you can run without a crew and still be fully supported.

After the finish line, the fun doesn’t stop. Stick around for a post-race cookout and BBQ featuring burgers, hot dogs, sides, and plenty of trail camaraderie. In 2026, spectators can even purchase picnic tickets, so your family and friends can join the celebration too.

Even better? STFU is the summer counterpart to the February Winter Trail Fest (WTF) Half Marathon & 5 Mile in Brighton and Middleville. Each year, the STFU and WTF medals are designed to magnetically connect into one giant finisher medal. You can also register through the WTF + STFU bundle to save 15% off each race while guaranteeing your spot in both events.

Why Run STFU?

  • Beginner-friendly trail race with smooth, scenic singletrack
  • Distances for everyone: 50 Mile (brand new in 2026), 50K, Half Marathon, and 5 Mile (run or ruck)
  • Generous cutoff times (51:31/mile for the Half Marathon, 21:43/mile for the 50K, 15:18/mile for the 50 Mile)
  • Well-stocked aid stations and drop bags so you can run without a crew
  • Excessively well-marked course that keeps navigation stress-free
  • Post-race cookout and BBQ celebration at the finish line
  • Medals that magnetically connect with Winter Trail Fest for a full-season accomplishment
  • Central Michigan location, convenient to both east and west sides of the state

Aid Station Spirit Guide

You don’t have to be Martha Stewart with a megaphone—but if you’ve ever wanted an excuse to wear a tutu in the woods or blast 90s pop from a folding table, this is your permission.

None of this is required. You don’t need to buy anything or stress about decorations. But if going all-in sounds fun to you? We’re all for it. STFU runners and ruckers are out there pushing hard, and every funny sign, weird outfit, or cowbell cheer helps keep them moving.  Some runners will run straight through with just a quick “thank you.”  Others will become your new BFF.

We’ve put together some easy, fun ideas below to help you bring the energy—whether you’re Team Inflatable Dinosaur or just really good at yelling “WATER OR TAILWIND?” into a megaphone.

Aid Station Party Ideas: Make Your Stop the Most Memorable One on the Course

1. Pick a Theme:

  • Luau: Grass skirts, leis, pineapple cups, beach vibes
  • 80s Throwback: Neon everything, boom box with 80s jams
  • Pirates: Eye patches, “ARRR you thirsty?” signs, gold coin candies
  • Camping Crew: Flannel shirts, fake campfire, s’mores vibes
  • Spa Station: Robes, cucumbers for eyes, offer a “hydration facial” (spritz of water)
  • “We Trained for This” Tailgate: Lawn chairs, coolers (for snacks), and matching tees that say “Professional Enablers”

2. Dress Up:

  • Costumes that match your theme
  • Wigs, hats, tutus, matching team shirts, onesies, bandanas - whatever fits your vibe
  • Temporary tattoos, face glitter, face paint

3. Sound Effects + Music:

  • Cowbells and noisemakers
  • Bluetooth speaker with an upbeat playlist - blasting “Eye of the Tiger,” “Run the World,” or dramatic opera
  • Megaphone for dramatic encouragement (“You look amazing!” or “You outran a bear!”) - great for puns, motivation, or shouting made-up stats
  • Group chants like “STFU!…and Run!”

4. Signs That Make Them Laugh:

  • “Free pierogi if you smile”
  • “You trained for this. Probably.”
  • “Run now, STFU later.”
  • “You’re not lost… probably.”
  • “This is technically a good idea”
  • “You’ve done worse things sober”
  • “Trail mix fixes everything”
  • “This is fine. Everything is fine.”
  • “Worst parade ever.”
  • “Run like your snacks depend on it”
  • “This is basically a progressive dinner.”

5. Bonus Motivation:

  • Bubbles
  • Misting spray bottles if it's hot
  • Display your own mini “leaderboard” of most entertaining runner quotes you hear throughout the race

6. Bring a Mascot:

  • Inflatable dinosaur
  • Cardboard cutout of Nicolas Cage or Chuck Norris (why not?)
  • Giant stuffed animal dressed in running gear

7. Show the Love:

  • Personalized cheers (“Looking good, bib 132!”)
  • Yell bib numbers like it’s a game show
  • Offer bad jokes, riddles, or “Would You Rather” questions as runners roll through
  • Keep spirits high—people remember the fun
  • Designate someone to be the “STFU Motivator” with a crown, cape, or clipboard

🚫 A Quick Note on Clean-Up:

Please no glitter, confetti poppers, or anything that leaves a mess behind. We love wild ideas, but we also love keeping the park clean and respecting the trails. Let’s make it weird and responsible.

This is your time to shine—make your aid station the most memorable stop on the course (besides the finish line). Runners may not remember their splits, but they will remember how hard they laughed when you told them to STFU and keep going.

Club Program

We can only accommodate EIGHT CLUB TENTS at STFU.  The first eight clubs to reach 10+ members will receive club race day perks listed below.  This is due to the number of tents Trivium utilizes out on the race course for Aid Stations, etc.

If your team has 10+ members registered two weeks before race day, you’ll enjoy:

  • A team tent set up by Trivium, featuring a banner with your club's name/logo
  • Your registration packets, ready at the tent (skip packet pickup lines)
    • In order for your race packet (shirt, bib, etc.) to be pulled and available at your club tent, you must be registered as part of the club by the Monday before the race at 11:59 pm EST.
  • Food, drinks, and goodies waiting for your team.

Check the Groups/Teams tab and see how many people your team currently has registered!  Questions about Club Benefits? Reach out to Megan at megan@triviumracing.com.

Summer Trail Fest Club Competition

  • All clubs, regardless of size, are part of the club competition.
  • Awards go to the winning club
  • All finishes count toward the 2026 Trivium Club Cup Competition

How Club Scoring Works at STFU

  • All finishers earn 1 point just for completing the race, so the more runners your team brings, the more you score.
  • Age group placement earns additional points, with top finishers scoring up to 20 points (1st place) and down to 2 points (for 16th–20th).
  • Overall podium winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) earn double their age group points—for example, an overall 5 Mile winner scores 41 points!
  • Volunteers are a huge part of race day too, earning 5 points each for their club.
  • And because STFU has three distances, the 50K is worth 2x points and the Half Marathon is worth 1.5x points across the board—making it a huge opportunity to rack up a big score for your team.

2026 Trivium Racing Club Competition

  • All clubs who compete also earn points toward the Overall, 2026 Trivium Club Competition
  • The Overall season winner will be treated to a club party and receive the club cup to proudly display for the next year!
  • Points will start at 500 for first place and decrease by 50 points for each placement. (1st = 500, 2nd = 450, 3rd = 400, etc.)
  • Clubs placing 11 – 20 will receive 25 points.
  • Club placing 21 and up will receive 10 points.

  • Half Marathon: Course open 7:30 am - 5:50 pm.  45:00/mile cutoff pace.
  • 5 Mile: Course open 8:00 am - 5:50 pm.  Generous cutoff—plenty of time to finish!

What's the elevation like?

  • 50K: ~1,100 feet of gain
  • Half Marathon: ~500 feet of gain
  • 5 Mile: ~132 feet of gain

Will the course be marked?

Yes. Trivium Racing is known for over-marked trails. Even if you’re pushing the pace, it’s very hard to get lost at STFU.  If you know you tend to stare at your feet, then just study the course markings in the Athlete Guide and pay attention to the awesome volunteers yelling directions!

Aid Stations & Support

How many aid stations are there?

Check out the aid station chart for all the details!

  • 5 Mile: 1 aid station
  • Half Marathon: 5 aid stations
  • 50K: 6 aid stations (passed twice = 12 stops total)

What’s at the aid stations?

Water and Tailwind, plus a mix of Hüma gels, salty + sweet snacks, trail mix, hummus wraps, pierogis, and more, dependent on the AS.  All aid stations have basic first aid, electrolytes, and feminine hygiene supplies.  Bathrooms are located near several aid stations.  Check out the aid station chart for all the details!

Do I need a crew?

No crew required! The aid stations provide everything you’ll need to finish strong and our volunteers are super supportive.

Post-Race

What happens after I finish?

STFU has one of the best post-race celebrations around:

  • Cookout BBQ with burgers, hot dogs, drinks, and sides
  • Spectator picnic passes available for purchase
  • Chill at the beach, hang with your trail crew, and cheer for other finishers
  • Last year we had massage therapists from Lansing Community College Massage Therapy School and lawn games, contests, and shoe demos with Altra Running and Running Lab Brighton!

Do I get a medal or swag?

Yes! Every finisher receives:

  • A custom finisher medal that magnetically connects with the Winter Trail Fest East and West medal
  • A technical tank/singlet/shirt with sublimated design
  • Chip timing and live results by Trivium Racing
  • Custom bumper sticker
  • Awards for overall and age group winners

Check out this page for designs and more information.

We also offer an Economy Registration.  Skip the swag and save some cash!

Contact

I still have a question after reading all of this and the Athlete Guide.

No problem!  Email Cathi at cathi@triviumracing.com.

I don't think I'm getting your emails.

We send a comfortable amount of emails; we want our runners to be informed and safe.  If you haven't received one from us in over a month, especially if we're three months or less out from race day, you may be missing them.

  • Have you checked your Spam folder?
  • Have you check other folders your email provider "kindly" created for you and "conveniently" filters your mail into, like Promotions, Purchases, Updates, etc.?
  • Have you added "noreply@runsignup.com" to your contacts?

If you've done all of this and want us to send you a test email, email Cathi at cathi@triviumracing.com.

The trails are usually in superb condition, and make for a great early summer course. • WTF West February 21, 2026 · Yankee Springs Rec Area, Middleville, MI

The 2026 Summer Trail Fest Ultra finisher medal is bright, bold, and fun, just like race day. Shaped like a radiant sun and accented with glitter, the design features the STFU logo with raised, dimensional detailing.

New for 2026, we’ve added two ribbon colorways: One for ultra distances and one for sub-ultra distances, celebrating every finish with its own identity. The medal measures 3.5 inches tall.  If you're also racing Winter Trail Fest in February, keep scrolling for the connecting WTF medal.

The STFU & WTF medals connect magnetically back to back.  The back of the STFU medal has sparkly diamonds that fill in the holes of the WTF snowflake.
