RUN, WALK, ROLL, OR STROLL!

Fit & Able is excited to bring back the Sunset Scramble at Bond Park! It's not quite a lap race but you will get your split times for each lap of your distance! There's ONE COURSE but THREE RACES for you to choose from to challenge yourself for how far you can go before the course closes. BUT you only have 2 hours to complete the distance of your choice so challenge yourself but pick what you think you can accomplish!

IN-PERSON RACE INFORMATION
VIRTUAL RACE INFORMATION
COURSE MAPS
EXHIBITOR INFORMATION
SPECTATOR INFORMATION

Since this is an evening race we are using a simple 5K course for all races that we can safely manage as it gets dark. Greater distance races will run increasing laps of that course. BUT the longer distances will ALSO get the split times for each 5K lap!

The course closes for all races at 7 PM. Runners will not be allowed to start a new lap after that point; any runners who can't complete their distance in the allowed time will be automatically transferred to the race distance they did complete. Runners who have started a lap before 6:30 PM will be allowed to finish their run and their full finish time and distance will be counted.

All races will have a staggered start beginning at 5:00 PM (in order of distance) and the course closes for all races at 7:00 PM (In-person Race Day Schedule). Please consider your race pace when deciding which event to run. * For any participants who feel they may need some extra time, please contact us at info@fitandable.net

PLUS there will be special results for those races at each split too! So you may not win the race but you might win a lap or two!

  • 5K - 1 Lap - Finish Time
  • 10K - 2 Laps - 5K Split & Finish Time
  • 15K - 3 - Laps - 5K Split, 10K Split, & Finish Time

PLUS PLUS you can race MULTIPLE distances and win MULTIPLE awards with ONE run and ONE finish time! How? If you sign up for multiple race distances, you will get a timing chip only for the longest distance but we will apply your lap split times as finish times to the shorter races. You will be eligible for the Overall, Age Group, and Lap Split awards for all registered events.

  • eg. Sign up for the 5K, 10K, & 15K:
    • 5K Lap Split (Lap 1) = 5K - Finish Time & 10K/15K - 5K Split;
    • 10K Lap Split (Lap 2) = 10K - Finish Time & 15K - 10K Split, etc.)
    • 15K Finish Time (Lap 3)

AND you'll get a DISCOUNT when you sign up for multiple races too (* discount applies to the lowest cost event on multiple registrations per participant):

In-person Race Course Maps
5K          10K          15K

Course Information: The course is around Bond Park with dirt, grass, paved, and natural trails with moderate to big hills; conditions depend on the weather prior to the event. The course is NOT USATF certified. GPS tracking apps are not suitable for measuring course distances accurately.

* Course maps include elevation data.
** This map is only an animated GPS depiction of the course and may not precisely reflect the actual path run. Course markings, including distance signage, will be placed by measurements of actual distance traveled on the ground from the start and/or finish line on the tangents (shortest path possible) and may differ slightly from those represented on this map.

Virtual Race Course Maps
Anywhere you want!

Course Information: Course conditions depend on the weather and where you choose to run. There will not be an athletic trainer or any water stations provided on the course other than public restrooms and water fountains available at parks. A virtual race is BYOB!

USATF / RRTC Position on GPS used by runners

GPS devices work by receiving signals from satellites. The quality of different GPS units can vary, but all of them can be affected by conditions such as buildings in urban environments or heavy overhead tree cover that interfere with reception of the satellite signals and can cause them to be inaccurate.

Race courses are measured by a proven method that incorporates calibrated measuring devices and verified by multiple measurements.
Race courses are measured along a well-defined path called the “SPR”—the Shortest Possible Route that a runner can possibly run. Most runners don’t actually run the SPR, so the distance recorded by their GPS device will usually be longer than the certified length of the course, even though the course was properly measured along the SPR according to USATF rules.

Disclaimer Regarding GPS Device Accuracy

The use of GPS devices for personal tracking and enjoyment is encouraged, but please be aware that the accuracy of these devices can vary due to signal strength, satellite visibility, and environmental conditions. Personal GPS data may show a distance slightly longer or shorter than the official race distance but official race results will be based on official course measurements and the timing system, not solely on individual GPS device readings.

GPS Technology Limitations: GPS devices rely on satellite signals, which can be affected by various factors like signal obstruction (buildings, trees, tunnels, etc.), atmospheric conditions (solar activity, weather), and signal reflection (multi-path interference). These factors can lead to inaccurate readings and discrepancies in recorded distances.

Variations in GPS Devices: The quality and accuracy of GPS receivers can vary greatly between different devices and brands (e.g., Garmin, Suunto, Apple Watch, and mobile phones). Some devices may offer higher accuracy than others, especially in challenging environments like urban areas or dense forests. Newer devices or those supporting multiple GNSS systems and frequency bands may provide better performance but is not guaranteed.

Course Measurement vs. GPS Data: Race courses are measured according to specific standards. However, individual runners' movements and GPS device variations can lead to recorded distances being longer or shorter than the official course length. For example, running tangents on curves or navigating through crowded sections of a race can cause discrepancies.

Participant Responsibility: Participants are responsible for understanding the limitations of their GPS devices and that official race results and distances will be based on the established course measurements and timing devices. Personal GPS data are not grounds for challenging or overturning results but may be reviewed at the race timer's discretion to amend results if needed.
