About The BREW Mile
Join us for the fourth running of The BREW Mile presented and hosted at Lost Rhino Brewing Company in Ashburn VA.
On Saturday August 17, 2024 with 5 PM start, choose to tackle one mile while drinking four beers (or root beer), or enlist one or three of your friends to create a team of two or a team of four, and take care the distance and beverage together! (NOTE: you (and your friends) must be 21 years of age and provide valid ID to participate)

Course Info
- Teams will start in waves. Waves can be selected during the registration process.
- The BREW Mile course will be contained within the Lost Rhino Brewing Company parking lot and clear of vehicle traffic.
- Participants will consume their beverage within the outdoor drinking zone
- Once beverage is consumed participant will enter the race course following the course throughout Lost Rhino's property while utilizing the sidewalks and coned off area marking the course.
- After completing the last lap, participants head to finish line located near the Drinking Zone.
- Race timed by Racine MultiSports
Drink Responsibly
To consume alcohol you must be 21 years of age with valid photo ID to participate.
ID will be checked at packet pick up. Participants will be given ID verification wrist bands once age is confirmed. Each person must pick up his/her own bib with a valid ID.
No ID = No Participation
Teams of ONE must check in with a designated driver present. After all, you are planning to consume FOUR beers in a short amount of time. Your designated driver will receive a free gift from us, just for watching your back by making sure you get home safely.
Drinking responsibly in a fun way is our goal!
How to Register a Team
Team of ONE
- Select BREW mile or rootBREW mile for an individual.
- Follow the prompted steps to complete your registration.
- BREW milers will need to provide the name of a designated driver, AND have a designated driver present at packet pick up on race day.
Teams of TWO or FOUR
- Select the appropriate category for a team of TWO or FOUR for BREW mile or rootBREEW mile
- Follow the prompted steps to complete YOUR registration.
- When asked to create or select a team - create your team if you are the first team member to register, select your team name if you are joining a team already created. (NOTE: If your team has already been created, your team Captain should have shared with you your team's password, if you are the team Captain and creating a team, share your team password with your team members.)
- Complete your registration and let your team Captain know you all set to go!
Team t-shirt contest!
Get creative and come dressed as a team! Our team t-shirt judges will be looking out for creativity and team spirit! Dress to impress! One team will be awarded with for the best team "uniform" and be recognized with an award during our awards presentation at 8:30 PM.
NOTE: If your team has already been created, your team Captain should have shared with you your team's password, if you are the team Captain and creating a team, share your team password with your team members.

Official BREW Mile Rules
The Official Beer Mile Rules
1. You must drink four cans of beer and run four laps on a track. Drink one beer to start, and then one beer every time you finish a lap.
2. The beer must be finished before the lap starts. You have the 10-meter transition zone to get it all down.
3. The first beer must be finished in the last meter of the transition zone to make sure that everyone does a complete mile.
4. Women do indeed drink the full four beers.
5. Beers must be canned or bottled 12-ounce beers.
6. No wide mouth bottles or ridiculous flow cans that offer an advantage.
7. No shotgunning or puncturing the can except from the tab to open it.
8. Beer must be at least 5 percent alcohol by volume. No hard ciders, lemonades or sodas.
9. The beer cannot be opened until the runner reaches the transition zone.
10. A penalty lap is added onto the end of the fourth lap for any competitor that vomits. One lap, regardless of how many vomits.
**BONUS** Turn the can over your head when done to prove it is empty.

Race Day Schedule & Packet Pick Up
Think Block Party! This is the perfect spot to plan to come and hang out with your friends with music, food, a little running, and at least four beers (per team) to equal a good time!
Arrive at your designated pick up time with enough time to gather your beer, bib and swag and get you and your team set up. One team member should plan to pick up for the entire team. ID required. Each team member will be asked to show ID and wear ID bracelet.
Once you are settled, prepare to cheer on other teams and friends prior to your turn, and then stick around for dinner and music with block style party fun!

Wave Start
- The BREW Mile will be run in waves
- As of now we are set to have five BREW waves. (Wave times are subject to change may change based on registration numbers.)
- BREW wave start times: 5 PM, 5:30 PM, 6 PM, 6:30 PM, and 7 PM
- Participants will be asked to select their preferred wave start time during registration.
- Your wave start time will be confirmed via your confirmation email and final email during race week.
- You may pick up your BREW mile packet 30 min prior to your wave start
Pro Tip: Be sure to choose the same wave start as your team mates!
What is a brew (beer) mile? (Rules)
Here's how our BREW and rootBREW mile will work:
- Each team (teams of 1, 2 or 4) will drink four, 12 oz. cans of beer and run 4 laps throughout the Lost Rhino property (approximately 400 meters).
- The sequence is: Drink first beer, Run first lap, Drink second beer, Run second lap, Drink third beer, Run third lap, Drink fourth beer, Run fourth lap to finish line.
- Beer can is "popped" at the start of each lap within the drinking zone.
- Beer can is tipped over participants head to indicate beer can is empty, before the lap run starts. If a significant amount of beer falls on your head, you will receive a penalty of two minutes added to your overall team time.
- The goal is to complete the sequence as fast as you can while keeping your beer in your belly.
- Loose your beer (i.e. vomit) you earn a penalty lap.
- Teams will start in waves. Wave times can be selected when registering.
- Top finishing teams are rewarded with custom awards.
Additional info for teams or 2 or more:
- Teams of 2 or more will have a "baton" to hand off to the next team member.
- Next team member will "pop" their beer once they have control of the "baton."
- Teams will need to decide which team member will be their anchor leg (last person to run), while each team member will receive a bib, only the anchor team member will wear the bib with the timing device.
- Each team member must drink at least one beer and run at least one lap.
- Team can not have one person drink all the beer, or one person run all the laps. If you drink, you run, if your run, you drink.
