About The Cheyenne Mountain Run

The Cheyenne Mountain Run features three scenic trail races inside Cheyenne Mountain State Park:

25K Mountain Challenge – for advanced trail runners
10K Trail Race – for experienced runners
5K Run/Walk – a friendly, accessible option for all levels, including beginners
Each race uses color‑coded bibs

Location: Limekiln Trailhead
Start Time: 7:00 AM (staggered start)
25K first, 10K next, 5K last
Fastest runners will start first with their race distance and walkers last.
All races are chip timed.
Poles: Not allowed.

Max Elevation: ~9,450 ft

This race is a fundraiser for The Friends of Cheyenne Mountain State Park A 501 (c) 3 charitable nonprofit) and is made to celebrate and fundraise for the park we know and love.

Rules

  • Assigned race bibs are not transferable and must be worn in plain view on the front of your body.  
  • Transfer of your registration is allowed.  Follow the prompts on RunSignUp. If assistance is needed, please contact Friendsofcmsp@gmail.
  • No strollers, bikes, roller blades, skateboards, etc.
  • No animals are permitted on the course.  Animals are allowed in the parking lot, as long as they are on a leash.
  • Poles and walking sticks not allowed. This is a safety precaution.
  • Due to the narrow trails, please step out of the way of competitors if you have to stop. Down hill runners, have the right of way.
  • Do not walk or run abreast in pairs or groups when it will impede others, especially on the Dixon Trail.
  • All trash must be disposed of at water stations/start-finish line.
  • Open ear devices will be allowed. Ear plug allowed only in one ear.
  • No refunds will be provided, please use the transfer option.

Grounds for Disqualification:

  • Using a race bib assigned to another runner.
  • Un-sportsman like conduct.
  • Verbally abusing any other participant or volunteer.
  • Failing to comply with directives of Race Officials.
  • Cutting the course.
  • Throwing trash in the park.

  • Due to the popularity of medals in 2025, all finishers will receive medals.
  • Tech shirts for all runners.

Pikes Peak Ascent Qualifier

The Cheyenne Mountain Run 25K is a qualifying race for the 2026 Pikes Peak Ascent (PPA).  For full details of the PPA qualifications, please read Pikes Peak Qualifications

Dixon Trail Work for The Cheyenne Mountain Run

The Cheyenne Mountain Run 25K will go to the top of Cheyenne Mountain and back.  This is possible because of great trail work by several organizations and volunteers.

All profits from The Cheyenne Mountain Run will be used to fund trail projects and other park programs.

Same Day Race Day Registration

Day-of registration will be available from 12:00am to 7:00 am the morning of the race August 15th. 

5K - $55
10K - $85
25K - $115

Note that race day registration fees are more expensive, so register early and save some bucks.

Since medals were so popular in 2025, all finishers will receive a medal to celebrate their race finish on the mountain.

Packet Pickup

Early packet pickup is from noon - 2:30 PM on Friday, August 14th, at the Visitor's Center in Cheyenne Mountain State Park.  You can also pickup your packet on race morning starting at 5:30 AM.

Registration Limits

The 25K course has a limit of 400 registrations, due to the two-way traffic on the narrow and steep sections of the Dixon trail. There is no limit on the 5K or 10K courses.

Race Timing

Race Timing is provided by the Pikes Peak Road Runners.  The race is chipped timed.  There will be timing at the start and finish, and one on-course split time on the 25K course, located along the loop at the top of the course.  Results will be posted online during the duration of the races at this link.
