About The Dirksen Derby
The Dirksen Derby is an annual Snowboard, Splitboard and Sit-Ski dual banked slalom race at Mt. Bachelor, Oregon in December.
About
The goal of the Dirksen Derby is to bring the Snowboard and Sit-Ski communities together for an incredibly fun and memorable weekend full of fast race times, strong friendships and fond memories while donating money to good causes.
The first Dirksen Derby Snowboard Rally Race was held at Mt. Bachelor in Oregon on December 1st, 2007. The event had 3 divisions, 58 total racers, and raised $1,160 for the local snowboarder Tyler Eklund, who was seriously injured while competing 8 months earlier at the USASA Snowboard Nationals in California.
With only 12” of snow on the ground that first year, the Dirksen Derby 1 course consisted of a single 30-second run down the dirt halfpipe with metal fencing poking out of the turns and hay bales to ollie over before hitting a jump at the finish line. The manual stopwatch timing system started between two large trees at the top and finished when the rider landed the final jump on the course.
The event has come a long way since then. Our 100% hand-dug Parallel Banked Slalom courses challenge the racers with a slow but technical race that rewards consistency and penalizes even the smallest mistakes. Our world-class timing system (run by CJ Timing) combines riders times down the Red Course (more difficult) and the Green Course (more friendly) for a final combined time at the end of the weekend. Fastest combined time wins.
As of 2023 the Dirksen Derby LLC has, hosted 16 individual racing events (Snowboard, Sit-Ski, and Splitboard), "dropped-in" over 5000 competitors, and donated over $300,000 to numerous Non-Profits and individual community members in need.
The Dirksen Derby is not a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) organization. We are a small LLC business that enjoys organizing an annual race that can pay our bills, pay our taxes, and donate a bunch of the money to charity. We strive to financially support and encourage the individuals, non-profits and businesses that enrich our snow community. The Dirksen Derby is also a proud member of 1% for the Planet (https://www.onepercentfortheplanet.org/).

DD18 Rally Race Format: The DD18 Race will be held at Mt. Bachelor, Oregon on December 19-20-21, 2025. Exact race location will be based on current snow and weather conditions on the mountain. Each racer receives one timed run down the Green (or Red) course on Saturday and one timed run down opposite course Sunday for a combined Final Time. The daily Course Inspection Schedule will be posted daily at 9:00am at the Race Start (starting Friday). Schedule is based on current course, weather and safety conditions. Individual practice runs are not guaranteed. DD18 Awards Ceremony will be around 3pm at Mt. Bachelor (with full results posted online at 2pm).
DD18 Helmet Policy: Racers are now required to wear a helmet while racing and practicing in the Dirksen Derby. Please wear your helmet with pride and style at the DD18.
DD18 Registration Rules: The Dirksen Derby 18 will be capped at 500 total racers with an equal number of spots available to male and female competitors. There are 25 divisions with a maximum of 50 spots per division. Pre-Registration begins on May 1st, 2025. Open Registration will begin at 9am PST on October 2nd, 2025 at DirksenDerby.com.
Derby Elite Divisions: The in-person registration for all Derby Elite Pro Men & Women will begin at Tactics in Bend on December 18th, 2025. There will be no on-line registration this year. Pros only. For more information, please email info@dirksenderby.com.

DD18 Splitboard Race Format: The individually timed Uphill & Downhill race will include both changeovers. All racers are required to have a Splitboard, Bindings, Poles, Skins, Backpack and Valid Lift Ticket in order to race. Soft Boots & Bindings only please! No Hard Boot setups. Forgetting your skins, poles, or trash on the course results in disqualification.
DD18 Helmet Policy: Racers are required to wear a helmet while racing and practicing in the Dirksen Derby. Please wear your helmet with pride and style at the DD17.
