The Eagle Chase 5K

At Ashland Elementary, we try to take our 4th and 5th grade students on at least one outside-the-classroom experience every single month. These trips come with a price, and we never want any student to miss out on these opportunities because of the financial burden they could put on families. These field trips help expose our scholars to pathways they may never have known about — whether it’s in the arts, science, or possible future careers!

The Eagle Chase 5K is our way of keeping those trips fun, educational, and affordable. All race proceeds go directly toward field trip costs, including two big end-of-year adventures for our 4th and 5th grade students! Whether you run, walk, or sponsor a student, you’re helping our scholars experience learning beyond the classroom while easing the cost for Ashland families. Walkers are absolutely welcome — every step makes a difference!

Here is everything you need to know for the race:  
 
Packet Pickup (Race bib and t-shirt) – Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8

Pickup Times:
Friday, November 7: 7:15–8:00 AM and 3:00–4:30 PM
Race Day (Saturday, Nov 8): starting at 7:30 AM near the start/finish line

If you registered on or before Sunday, October 26, you were guaranteed a race shirt. We will have a limited number of extras for those who registered after that date, but sizes and quantities are not guaranteed. We may place a second order if registrations keep coming in.

Race Day Registration: 7:30–8:45 AM (cash or check only)

Lexington, KY 40502Parking is limited (we're just a small neighborhood school!) To help everything run smoothly:

• If you live nearby, please walk to the school that morning.
• If you drive, please avoid parking along the race route when possible. There are many side streets around the school with available street parking

Timing
The race will be timed, but to help keep costs down, we are not using a chip-timing system this year. Instead, when runners cross the finish line, volunteers will pull the tear-off portion of your race bib to record finish order and determine winners. Official times will be posted on https://eaglechase5k.com by the end of the day on Saturday, November 8.  
 
Race Route
The route map is available on this link and on the website.  It starts and ends at Ashland Elementary School. 
The course is three quick laps on a 1-mile loop through the neighborhood. After the third lap, runners will turn into Ashland Elementary for the final stretch.

We are doing several things to help keep our runners safe. During the race, you will see signs, arrows, and parent volunteers at every turn. The neighborhoods and streets along the route have been notified that the race is happening that morning, and we are thankful for our neighborhoods and neighborhood associations for their support. We will also have police and many volunteers stationed at key points on the course. However, the roads will not be closed, so we are asking all runners and walkers to stay on the right-hand side of the road at all times.

Safety for Ashland parents/students:
We intentionally chose a route that has a sidewalk that goes along the entire route. Students are welcome to run or walk on the sidewalk instead of the road if that feels safer.  Parents: if your child is participating in the race, please try to run or walk alongside them if possible.  
 
For safety and flow:

• Runners should line up toward the front.
• Walkers and strollers should line up toward the back. 

Water Station
The water station will be available along the course and at the finish line.
 
Awards and Door Prizes

Awards will be handed out once all runners and walkers finish. Awards include:

• Overall Female Winners
• Overall Male Winners
• Overall Ashland Student Winners
• Age group level winners.  
• In addition, we will have door prize drawings after the awards have finished. All runners and walkers are eligible!  
   

Registration and Donations

• Race-day registration will be available starting at 7:30 AM (cash or check only).
• We currently have just under 175 runners. Our goal is to hit 200+ by race time, so feel free to share the registration link with anyone who might like to join us. Remember: every registration directly supports our students!
• Extra donations:
  Several people have asked if they can give additional donations. Absolutely, and thank you in advance! You can bring cash or a check the morning of the race, and we will make sure it goes directly toward our students.
