The Greenhead Ocean Mile

Green Whales, Inc., along with the Brigantine Beach Patrol, bring you the Greenhead Ocean Mile. This year's events include:

• 500yd Flag Swim.  250yd out and back.  Ages 7 - 16
• 1 Mile Ocean Swim.  Ages 16 and over. 

We will start with the flag swim and finish with the mile. All proceeds from the event support Green Whales Inc.'s swim programs and the Brigantine Beach Patrol LIT and Junior Guard programs.

This is an open water ocean swim; the current and wave conditions are unpredictable.  Please use good judgment if you are uncertain about swimming in rough water.  The course is set; however, the race committee reserves the right to change the direction of each event due to water conditions. The details of each event with landmarks are provided in the race map(s). Any questions about the course will be addressed at the pre-race meeting by the Race Referee.

SWAG

Each athlete will receive the following items for participating in this event:

• Cap (must be worn during the event)
• T-Shirt
• Commemorative Medal 

AWARDS & PRIZES

 Awards will be given to the 1st place overall male and female finishers* per event. Overall winners do not qualify for age group awards. 

500y: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placed male and female place finishers* in the following age groups:

• 10 & Under
• 11-12
• 13-14
• 15-16

1 Mile: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd male and female place finishers* in the following age groups:

• 16-29
• 30-49
• 50-59
• 60-69
• 70+

* Athletes are permitted to wear wetsuits however they will not be eligible for awards.

LOCATION

All races will start and finish at the Brigantine 17th Street Beach 

PARKING

There is limited parking at the Brigantine 17th Street Beach.  Lot parking is by permit only.  On street parking is available in the area at no charge. 

500yd FLAG SWIM

This is a 500yd swim for swimmers ages 7 – 16. The 500yd swim will have one turn. Athletes will start running into the water at 17th St beach swimming 250yd, turning around at a flag position in the ocean before swimming 250yd to return to the shore.  

1 MILE OCEAN SWIM

This is a 1 mile ocean swim for ages 16 & Over. The direction is subject to change at the discretion of the Race Director and the Brigantine Beach Patrol. Athletes will begin in the water, swimming north to the turnaround point and returning.
