Frequently Asked Questions:
Where does the race start?
The race is held at Kansas State School for the Blind (1100 State Ave, Kansas City, Kansas). The start/finish line is located on 11th street north of State Ave on along the east side of KSSB's campus.
What is the 5K route? The one-mile route?
Our 5k route in 2025 featuring Jersey Creek Trail promises to be both peaceful and challenging! For those of you training for this run/walk make sure you incorporate some hill training into your runs! Kansas City, Kansas is not flat.
What happens if it rains on race morning? What's your cancellation policy?
We will run in the rain, but if it is unsafe (thunder, lightning) to run/walk the race director reserves the right to cancel the race. There are no refunds if the race is canceled due to weather concerns. Cancellations due to unsafe weather conditions will be posted on the KC Blind All-Stars and Kansas State School for the Blind Facebook pages and on runsignup.com/kcbas5k. In the event that our in-person race is canceled, all registrations will be automatically moved to virtual registrations.
Where do I park?
When will I get my finisher’s medal?
At the finish line!
What if I need first aid?
We will have a first aid tent with basic supplies at the track in-field staffed by a volunteer should you need assistance. In case of emergency call 911. All of our course monitors will have cell phones on the 5k and 1 mile routes.
I can’t come to the race, can I still get my t-shirt?
Yes, feel free to pick up your shirt at packet pick-up. Or you may have a friend pick it up for you.
Can I transfer my bib to someone else?
No. We are sorry, we do not allow bib transfers.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are not allowed.
Will there be aid stations along the course?
Yes!
Will you have food/drink at the finish line?
Yes, there will be prepackaged food/drink at the finish line.
Can I wear headphones?
We discourage the use of headphones as a safety precaution.
Can I run with my dog? How about with a stroller?
Due to safety (tripping) hazards, we do not allow dogs on the 5K or 1-mile course. Strollers are welcome! Please be mindful of others especially when lining up at the start. Portions of the 5k route along the Jersey Creek trail are steep- please use caution with strollers and wheelchairs. Course monitors will be placed near the steep sections to provide warning.
