The Longest Day

Lakewood Nature Preserve · Greenville, SC

Sun up to sundown. Who can last? ☀️

A two-mile grass loop through 120 acres of forest and open field, run under a cutoff that gets one minute shorter every single lap. Forty-five minutes for the first. Fifteen for the thirty-first. Seven laps is a half marathon, fourteen is a marathon, sixteen is a 50K, twenty-five is fifty miles, and thirty-one is 100K. The clock decides when you are done, not you.

The format is what makes this race. Early laps feel generous — 45 minutes for two miles is a walk in the park, and it very nearly is one. But the window closes a minute at a time, and somewhere in the afternoon the math stops being theoretical and starts being the only thing you can think about. Miss a cutoff and it is over: ring the cowbell, turn in your bib, and go cheer for whoever is still out there.

The course itself is grass trails with rolling hills, open fields, and sections of shade, winding among red cedar and maple through the preserve. You may see white-tailed deer, a box turtle, or a fox. Note that there is NO WATER OR POWER ON SITE, so plan your crew setup accordingly. Bring a tent, a camp chair, and your support crew — Friday evening setup begins at 5:00 PM and overnight camping is available.

Course

A two-mile loop on grass trails with rolling hills, open fields, and sections of shade, through 120 acres of forest featuring red cedar and maple. Keep an eye out for white-tailed deer, box turtles, and foxes. Important: there is no water or power on site, so bring what you and your crew will need for the day.

Lap Cutoffs

Every lap allows one minute less than the one before it — 45 minutes for the first, 15 for the thirty-first. The pace column is what that cutoff works out to per mile on the two-mile loop. Miss a cutoff and your race is complete: ring the cowbell, turn in your bib, and cheer on whoever is still out there.

Race Awards

Last Runner Standing
This is an elimination format, so the win is decided by survival rather than by a finishing kick. If multiple runners are still in it at Lap 31, the first across the line wins. Every finisher who covers at least the 10K minimum earns a medal.
Age Group Awards (Male & Female)
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each of 15 age categories will earn an age group medal — a custom piece to add to your finisher's lanyard at the end of the event.
Series Recognition
This race counts toward season-long age group recognition in this series:
