The Ralph Swain Queen's Race for Love & Life

The 5k Run is an out and back course. It will start and finish close to the North Park Boathouse. While it is mostly flat, there are some rolling and gradual hills. The course is in the midst of beautiful North Park, and for the most part, runs along Lake Shore Drive.

The 1 Mile Walk route is also an out and back course and has the same start and finish points as the 5k race.  Walkers will start about 5 minutes after runners. All walkers must be registered for the walk.

Registration will take place UPSTAIRS inside of the Boat House. Race Day Registration and Pre-Registration shirt/bag pick-up starts at 9 am. **The Race will start just before** 10 am (9:55 am).  The walk starts about 5 minutes later.

Awards will be given to the top 3 overall M/F & top 3 M/F in each of the following age groups: 0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 and up.

Pricing

• Open to May 16 - $20 for adults, $15 for ages 10-17, $0 ages 0-9.
• May 17 to race day - $25 for adults, $20 for ages 10-17, $0 ages 0-9.
• Families of 3 or more living under the same roof receive $5 discount per registrant.

The Story

Ralph Swain started running in 1976 at age 42, one year after he stopped smoking and gained weight. Supported by his wife “Queenie” throughout his racing career, they have been models of Faith and Love and together have always supported LIFE! This Race is in honor of their tireless commitments to God and Family. Proceeds will go to future families through the Women’s Choice Network, a group who works to prevent the lost lives of the unborn and support the lives saved.

Background on “Queenie” – Besides supporting Ralph’s running habit for over 30 years, Dorothy Swain maintains the home-front as he logs in miles on roads, trails, and even pools. Queenie also stands by her man by serving up high-carb meals when needed, acquiring her massage therapy license to aid his sore muscles, providing much-needed snacks at stops along raceways, while cheering him on throughout and always giving him that finish line kiss!

The Benefactor: Women’s Choice Network – A pregnancy help center with five offices in the Pittsburgh area, the group provides “free and confidential resources to women and men with questions about pregnancy, abortion, sexually transmitted diseases and related issues.”     From educating students and parents about the risks involved with pre-marital sex to aiding expectant mothers and fathers with unplanned pregnancies, to counseling women suffering from past abortions, the Women’s Choice Network works hard to serve as a support for women, men, and the unborn through many stages of life.
