About Tri-Span 5K, 10K and LiveStrong Mile
Be part of one of the oldest and most iconic races in Wilmington, NC & join us for the annual Tri-Span 5K, 10K & Livestrong Mile.
Both 5K and 10K courses wind through historic downtown Wilmington and along the picturesque Cape Fear Riverwalk which hugs the bank of the Cape Fear River. The 5K is an out and back course through downtown Wilmington. The 10K course is what makes Tri Span such a unique race. Runners will have the opportunity to run the three downtown bridges. The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge will take runners across the Cape Fear River. The Thomas Rhodes Bridge will give runners a birds eye view of the USS North Carolina and the downtown Wilmington riverfront. Last, the Isabell Holmes bridge will cross back over the Cape Fear River and bring runners back into downtown Wilmington and to the finish line.
Back by popular demand - the LIVESTRONG MILE. Join us as we honor friends and family whose lives have been impacted by cancer. This is a non-timed 1-mile walk or run and we invite everyone to participate.
Presented by our friends at Maus, Warwick, Matthews, and Co

RESTROOMS - There are restrooms at the Riverfront Park, however, there are no restrooms on the course.
AID STATIONS - The 5K course will have 1 aid station that runners will hit at mile 1 and mile 2. The 10K course will have 4 aid stations near miles 1, 2, 4.5, and 5.5. Please note there is a long stretch on US421 from miles 2-4.5 where there will not be aid stations. Please plan accordingly and carry water if you feel you will need. All aid stations will have water and ice. The aid stations at mile 2 and mile 4.5 of the aid station will also have Gatorade.
HEAT -TriSpan is famous for its beautiful course in beautiful downtown Wilmington AND the mid-summer heat! Please hydrate well in advance, bring water or sports drink with you if you feel like you will need in addition to the aid stations provided. We will also have nice cold watermelon, LMNT electrolyte sparking water, ice and shade tents waiting for you at the finish line!
THE COURSE - We are very fortunate to host the TriSpan 5K/10K in historic downtown Wilmington. However, running through a historic town does present a few issues. The course will contain sections of bridge grating (10K only), boardwalk (5K only) cobblestones, uneven brick, and pavement. Roads will be open to vehicular traffic so please be aware of your surroundings and footing. Additionally, downtown Wilmington is undergoing some construction that largely dictates the racecourse. To accommodate for construction and provide the safest courses possible, the courses are not precisely measured to 5 km and 10 km. (They are very close...but they are not exact)
PARKING - There is plenty of on-street parking near Riverfront Park. Meters do start at 9am, so please plan accordingly. For more details on Downtown parking, please review the following information. City of Wilmington Parking
DOGS- While we are dog lovers ourselves, we recognize that everyone does not share our love for furry friends. For the safety and comfort of all participants, we do ask that you keep Fido at home.
BIKES, SKATEBOARDS, ROLLERBLADES and ROLLER SKATES - For the safety of all of our participants we cannot allow wheels on the course.
STROLLERS - Strollers are not permitted on the 10K course and not advised on the 5K course. The 5K course has some narrow sections, cobblestones, uneven brick and boardwalk.
