This year the Annual Turkey Burn will be taking place at Freedom Park in Greenwood, Indiana on Thanksgiving Day morning! Gather your family, friends and arch rivals for this fun 5k and kids run to celebrate community and family. All proceeds raised will be going to The Refuge. The race is full of laughter, joy and of course the “Runners High” some of you speak so highly of. The kids run/walk will be before the main 5k starts and kids will get to run with our celebrity turkey who will be running alongside them. Turkey Burn Origin and Future
The Turkey Burn started in support of Jamie Sue Gill Ramey. Jamie graduated from Greenwood High School in 1992. Jamie met Roy a few years later and they married. Over the next few years, Jamie and Roy grew their family from two to six. In the fall of 2011, Jamie was diagnosed with stomach cancer and eight short months later, she lost the battle. All past proceeds went to help assist Jamie’s kids for school and their future. Now with them being older they have chosen to pass the torch and want to help do good for others. Insert Bailey & Wood as in 2022 they have stepped in and want to keep this amazing tradition alive here on the Southside. This year and going forward the event will go to fight against any child being hungry in our community. All proceeds will be allocated to organizations that help those in our community. “We are beyond honored to carry forth the legacy and tradition started with those who have hosted the Turkey Burn and hope to make our community and the Ramey family proud going forward, “ stated Founder D. Mike Wood.
